I really want to know if people with ASD are more prone to drastic mood changes, or whether drastic mood changes normal or a separate mental issue.
I have mild aspergers (diagnosed) and I feel I have always had a uncontrollable mood. The smallest things can make me go from A to B - A being really happy and upbeat and B really angry and frustrated, sad and I feel this happens to me every day several times. Its just so unpredictable I hate it.

I have moved away from home so I'm facing these new challenges so my mood is a bit over the place but honestly it has been all my life. Its just as bad as when I was back home with family, which I thought was reason for my bad mood.
I know people are not happy all the time and people without Aspergers go through mood changes. But I find it difficult to sustain a mood for a long time, and when its a bad, angry mood that is when I start to feel reckless and it affects people around me. I find it very difficult to disguise it when it happens. That's why I don't feel I could ever work a job which deals greatly with public like customer service. If someone annoys me I find my mood for the rest of the day is not good and I say and do rash things I regret or could get me in trouble. Lots of noise also gets me in a bad mood because I'm sensitive to noise.

I really hope to get better and I wonder if anyone feels the same way? This is plaguing my ability to make friends. If something bad or frustrating happens I cling on to this feeling and find it very difficult to think differently or rationalise. The opposite I feel really upbeat about things and buy things without thinking, etc.

I should also add I live with roommates and I really get concerned these mood changes will affect me in the household with them. They are the nicest people and I don't want to upset them. I've told them all about my ASD but I often have those bad moods when something catches me off guard like someone going in shower just before I want to, etc and I struggle with uncertainty. Another factor which affects my mood.

I relate. I think. I'm not great when it comes to emotions, but things like noises, sudden unexpected changes in my routines, people getting in my way at stores... these things cause me internal upset as well. My body will feel the upset first and I can get somewhat bi***y, or so I am told. There was a time in my life where I would fly off the handle and go into a rage. It's been a few years since I have done that though. I'm not sure that I hold that kind of stuff in my mind... my brain kinda stops working right when that stuff abounds in my environment. I need down time to process and 'hit the internal reset button' then it just goes away and I return to calm.

I think that's common for spectrumy folks... to have your world get shook up when unexpected things happen or there are too many sounds (lights/smells/movement/etc as well) in your environment. Routine, calm, stability, consistency... these things can be of the utmost importance for the well being of some of us. To many people suddenly getting in a shower is no big deal, but if you are a person who needs your day to go as you plan it... that right there is enough to wreck the whole day or at least a bit of it until you can decompress and figure out how to rework the day. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be the little things others think nothing of that can be so devastating.
