I love Halloween, generally speaking, but I'm in kind of a bind. Y'see, I'm generally too old to go trick-or-treating (with one saving grace I'll get to shortly), but I really, really hate parties and crowds (noise sensitivity), so most Halloween parties for adults are out. That doesn't generally give me much of an opportunity to celebrate. My one saving grace here is that since I live in DC, there's trick-or-treating at the embassies, which is generally done by college students (who are often free during the embassies' operating hours). I can still get by there, but for the past couple times, I've had trouble finding people to go with - usually because of time commitments. I can go on my own, but I always feel really out of place when doing so. Does anyone know of any more sensory-friendly ways to celebrate if I can't find anyone to trick-or-treat with again?

Well, I have the same problem sort of. I can go to a crowded place, but there must be a quiet place for me to go and recover every now and then, and even then I can get pretty bad sensory problems, depending on the crowd/noise levels. So, I'm not going to any parties either this Samhain. I'm just going to dance around to music in my house, maybe buy something pumpkin-y to eat, and sit outside all dressed up as myself (I wear a lot of black and witchy looking things) to give the children candy (I already ate half of it myself, there may only be one Reese's peanut butter cup left, sorry kids.). I wish I could say I'm doing more, but being sick all this past week sort of threw making any grandiose Halloween plans out the window, so to speak. There is always next year. Good luck finding an interesting activity to do, I can't really think up any suggestions at the moment. :)

Lock the doors, hang black drapes behind the shades, and game all night.
