Do you have a blanket that helps you?

Does anyone else have a favorite blanket? I have one - it's the "Cars blanket" I always talk about. I got it for Christmas in 2008 when I was 16, and as soon as I got it, I wrapped myself up in it. I stayed wrapped in it while my folks and I watched A Christmas Story, while we had hot chocolate, and while we opened the rest of the gifts, and while we sat by the fire. I've slept with it every night since then. I really became attached to it one winter when I lay on top of it in bed and snuggled around in it - it's the really soft raschel kind that feels incredibly soft to the touch. One side of my Cars blanket has become kind of frayed and "nappy" due to being washed so often, but there's one side of the blanket I like called "The Good Side." I always sleep with "The Good Side" covering me.

It (my blanket) has Lightning McQueen on it, with the Piston Cup logo above him, along with the words, "I Am Speed" at the bottom. It's predominantly red, white and blue in color, and has blue binding along the edges. It's not as soft as it was 6 years ago, but I still have it...I don't like the thought of changing blankets, and another blanket wouldn't feel the same as my Cars one. For me, it is, in a way, as close as I'll ever get to sleeping near a real live anthro Car.

Anyone else have a favorite blanket that they sleep with, or have had since they were kids? Maybe they give you sensory input you like, or help you with sensory overload and meltdowns? I'd love to hear about them!

Well, it's not really a blanket... but it does provide me a lot of security. I think I should it to you once (the OP). It's my scarf that I call my Scarfy. It's very soothing to me, and I treat it like a security blanket as well. It's soft and feels so soothing on my cheeks. I usually end up snuggling with it during really stressful situations.

When I was little and at the age where I grew out of having one, my mom came up with the blanket fairy. I can't remember exactly what she said about it, but of course it wasn't real... just as a kid, I had believed her. XD

Yes, I remember your Scarfy, LokiofSassgard. It did look awfully soft. I loved the color, too. I actually went to this indie art gallery with dad a couple weeks ago, and they had these really soft handmade scarves, and I immediately thought of you and your Scarfy. I've been thinking about going back there to pick one out for myself, if there's still one there that's nice and soft and not itchy and scratchy.

And, it's interesting that you mentioned "the blanket fairy" - my mom and dad used to read this book to me called "Owen" by Kevin Henkes, about a little boy mouse who has a favorite blanket, "Fuzzy." This nosy neighbor keeps pressuring Owen's mom and dad to make him give up Fuzzy, and one of the techniques she tells them about is "The blanket fairy." Owen's parents tell him to leave Fuzzy under his pillow that night, and the blanket fairy will come take it and swap it out for a "big boy" toy. Owen finds a way around this by hiding Fuzzy in his pajamas, though. xD

Yes, my Batman blanket I got in the early 90s. I still wrap it around me, it makes me feel safe, if that makes sense.

yeah. I got a weighted blanket a while ago and it is super freaking helpful. it is also very warm which is awesome as it is currently as cold as Satan's scrotum.

I have two weighted blankets. I sleep with my lighter weight cotton one.

Yes, Rocky's blanket. I got it when I was around 13 or 14 and I call it Rocky's blanket because my aunt had a fat tuxedo cat named Rocky that I was very close to and he liked to lay on it when I wasn't using it. He was always there for me when people weren't, and he would let me cuddle him and cry on him when I would have meltdowns in my room. I don't like other people using that blanket, and when I use it, it calms me down just like Rocky the cat did. Sadly he died a few years ago. It's very soft, fuzzy, and white, but I've washed it so many times that it's sort of dingy now and not as soft.

Wow, this question blew my mind a little bit when I saw it, because I definitely do. It's one of those things I've always realized was a little odd about me, but I didn't really apprehend that it apparently may be autism-related. I have a blue blanket that I've slept with since I was very young, although I don't wrap myself in it (it's sort of too small, and anyway I use comforters for that when I want to). Rather, I use it as a pillow, because I love the way the fuzz feels on my face and I can mold the blanket to its contours. When I was even younger I used to have another blanket that I carried around with me everywhere, which became a shredded and faded little pale-yellow rag, until I eventually lost it by leaving it in-between the sheets in a hotel, which were picked up by the cleaners. I was so sad that my Mom found my current blanket in the attic: it had been made for me when I was a baby, but put in a box until then. I realize it's a little bit strange for a guy in his twenties to still sleep with a childhood blanket, but gaze upon my field of f***s, AND SEE THAT IT IS BARREN.

Yes I have a fuzzy blanket that I sleep with that has hearts on it.

yeah I got me bwue babee bwankie still after all these decades, though it took a sojourn through my nieces' childhoods along the way.

For a long time it was my baby towel. It's yellow with a little ducky embroidered in the corner. I used to hold it to my face while sucking my thumb, just like Linus. These days it's my microfiber blanket I love to be cuddled up in. I have it around me right now
