the title may come off as wrong, i never meant that people who are non verbal don't speak because they are not in control of that. I meant in general, that aspies don't speak up about their life to others around them because they get judged or Neurotypicals are quick to say that we are trying to be different, or it's just a phase or it's not real or all in our head. So, why bother?

The way 16 year old Rosie King from TED is being treated in these YouTube comments is an exact symptom of the problem, they are saying because she doesn't fit what they see as societies stereotypes of an ASPIE that immediately everything she is saying is discredited, alchemized into "teen angst", "narcissism" or "special snowflake syndrome".. How dare they? Everyone is so ridiculous.

Do they not understand that Aspies aren't trying to be different, they just are without a choice and though that is a desirable quality for our society - some Aspies (like myself) have spent so much of my life hating myself for not being able to be normal, and to connect with others or have the stereotypical paths as the next person.

I think ROSIE is a blessing, she is breaking new grounds - she's a new face. She's exciting.

Personally, I felt really comfortable listening to her - she described similar struggles I have that nobody else would ever believe me about unless it was my therapist or people on WP.

Welcome to the world of the internet where people area keyboard warriors pointing out things that are pretty thin veiled and lack substance, but do get a decent following because of superficial reasons.

I'm quite sure the comments that are consideratly hostile towards her get a good laugh and sympathy because... hey, fun at the expense of others is always great, right?

It's the same crap that goes on, on Facebook most of the time... or any other social media.

It's absolutely f*****g disgusting, maybe because I'm so empathetic - that I could feel the hate I had towards the people who wrote those terrible things because I've experienced them my self.

Yeah.. I'm not much of an empathic type so my perception is pretty much a rational one.

Plenty of times I get annoyed over cheap tricks some people rely on just to get their name out. I always felt that "if you wouldn't say it to someone in person, don't say it online" (and I'm quite sure at least someone reading this thinks "you're a buzzkill"). Even if we have a thing like a "nettiquette" there's hardly anyone to enforce it.

To some extent, this may just be YouTube - although what it says about people's real thoughts is unsettling. I've seen a video of an infant playing with a cat with comments calling it animal abuse or saying they'd like to kick the baby for how much noise it was making and for tugging at the cat's fur.

Youtube has never been the best place for stuff like that. There are far too many trolls who enjoy terrorizing videos just for the hell of it. You're going to get that with really any video you see. It's not just ones about autism either.

Blocking the google webpage scripts makes the comments invisible.

From a personal experience, I've made thousands of posts to two teen forums and talked about my autism a lot and have only gotten positive feedback from it. Lots of people have thanked me because they say they have gotten a better understanding of autism from my posts.

I admire Rosie for all the hard work she's doing, educating people about autism and individual differences in general. What some of the YouTube posters don't get is that she's a trailblazer and she's busting her tail doing all the things that she is. There should be more people in the world like her.

Reading comments on youtube is enough to make me lose all faith in humanity. Especially on a video like that one. It's just scary to see the way some people think and interpret things. BUT it explains a lot to me about why people act the way they do. I mean times when people would act weird in real life but I had no idea what was actually going on in their mind. Seeing people write that s**t down on the internet really, really explains it.

She is just turning normal into another group to be hate at. She wants to be defined by her disorder; thus, she is using it to get ahead in life. I don't want to be a part of this pity party or be defined by this disorder.

What pity party? She didn't talk about autism as something to be pitied.

And why do you think she wants "normal" people to be hated?

She acts all high and might and is greater than the norm. Autism is what makes her special, thus, she is willing to use it to create a special group for her type of people. She is defined by a social groups and do not think people as individuals which sickens me.

One of the greatest struggle I had with my Aspergers Diagnosis is what if this disorder is what made me how I am. What if my choice was not my own but a predestined path? This idea caused great despair in me. But, when I see people like her it sickens me even worst since she the antithesis of my ideals. She wants the group to define the individual and not the other way around.

Ok, you ignored my questions, but no one has control over their neurology, whether they have Asperger's or not. It's not because of AS that you had no choice.
