"Networking addiction" is a common cormordity of nerotypicality. A controversy has erupted over whether the condition should be pathologized. Those in favor of adding the condition to the DSM 6 argue that it is a form of delusion since very few ‘contacts’ end up in useful business partnerships or employment that the participants expect. Neurotypical Speaks notes that it is a burden that breaks up marriages due to time and effort involved and occasional affairs that result. These similarities to gambling addiction have been noted. Environmentalists have protested outside networking events citing a vast waste of paper involved in printing business cards. However so called “NT rights” activists and a few outlier psychologists have argued that “networking” is an essential form of release from the tension involved with living in a normal world and the negative views of this activity is a form of ableism.
