New to the site. There is so much info here it has been very helpful. My son has just been diagnosed with PDD NOS and probably Asperger's. Went from a straight A student to barely passing as soon as puberty hit. What an amazing change that was. Trying to look at the glass a little more than half full right now since we didn't know there was a problem before. He has always been a little quirky in a very good sort of way. Very emotional, caring and extremely gifted. Was gifted with a photographic memory, but didn't obsess over it. Always clung to one friend, but not always the same one.

Thanks for this site and thanks for all the input to it.

I didn't know someone could be both PDD and Aspergers. My only real friend is PDD. I had a real hard time with middle school in the 8th grade and am having to take it over.

thanks for the welcome. The way its been explained to us is that he is on the "spectrum" and for now has been diagnosed with PDD. Depending on how things go over time and observation the diagnosis could be changed to Asperger's. He has always been very highly functioning but lacking some social skills. When puberty hit, or highschool with block classes he started to struggle big time.

Ezra, im sorry to hear that 8th grade was a do over. in the big scheme of things, its probably not a huge deal. Its funny how we focus on year to year until we hit college, then it doesn't matter how long it takes. Im sure you will catch up.

My therapist is totally confused about my diagnosis, as she diagnosed me with Aspergers and the hospital shrink diagnosed me with HFA. I know a lot of Aspies, but I like the people with HFA better.

There's still some confusion around all these labels... The newfangled language is autism spectrum disorder with pdd and Asperger's lumped in with that and not separated (I don't agree with this, but it's what it is...).

Regardless, welcome to wp! People here are typically very helpful and friendly!

Lots of great info and great people here. I'm sure that as your son grows up you'll see that his future is wide open!
