Just when everyone thought the cure for Asperger's syndrome is out of reach, there is one organization that has cured a rare disease called Angelman Syndrome in mice. In 2007, they successfully regown the missing chromosone 15 in the mouse with Angelman Syndrome mouse and immediatley the siezures and nonstop happiness, which are characteristics of Angelman Syndrome, stopped for good. That might be good news for kids and adults with Angelman syndrome but it would lead to extinction of Aspies because the Angelman Syndrome foundation said that curing Angelman Syndrome might lead to a cure for Alziehmers and Autism Spectrum Disorder (including Asperger's Syndrome). It might seem a good idea to cure Asperger's Syndrome until there are no more scientists and new inventions. I like being an Aspie because I am super smart and have the imagination that even the most gifted out of the nuerotypical gifted there is. If we keep Asperger people, which might sound like a problem that needs to be cured to the Angelman Syndrome foundation, then Aspies could actually help to really find a cure for Angelman Syndrome.Maybe Harry Angelman, the pediatrictian who discovered Angelman Syndrome, could have Asperger's Syndrome. I would not be surprised if he did. For example, he had extensive knowledge in Italy, it's culture, and all of the Italian language, which sounds like an extensive obsessive knowledge trait of Asperger's Syndrome. Like for example, I know that there are some proteins and chemicals that could hold a cure for Angelman Syndrome deep in the ocean where it would be extremely dificult to get to. I have designs for deep sea diving apparatus inventions technologically advanced submarines and 1 atom Iron Man looking NewtSuit-like inventions that could easily go into those deep areas.

Not to worry: the genetics of ASDs are much more complicated and less well understood. There is no avenue or even pool of candidates for a gene therapy approach to ASDs in general.

If it's chromosomal, that sounds much closer to being a cure for down syndrome than autism.

Recent genetic studies have confirmed at least 27 genes related to autism with an additional 100 more suspected. These genes are across multiple chromosomes, which would mean replacing multiple chromosomes. With this method, significant portions of the DNA would need be replaced... a single mistake would probably mean death or other horribly painful effects.

One word why not: epigenetics.

We now know why identical twins are not always identical.

But Angelman Syndrome is cause by an ommission of Chromosone 15 while Down Syndrome is caused by a mutation (the opposite of ommission) in contrast to Angelman in Chromosone 21 (which is why Down Syndrome is also called Trismony 21) so the way for curing Angelman might not work on Down Syndrome. The ways of curing a deletion(Angelman) and a mutation(Down Syndrome) have their very own diffrent challanges and are very oppposite ways. Just because they cured Angelman Syndrome in mice does not mean that Down Syndrome could be cured just as easy. The proffessionals at the Angelman Syndrome Foundation are experts in those fields of genetics and in this video posted, the scientists at the Angelman Syndrome treatment center CLEARLY said in the vedio that the hypothical antidode that can cure Angelman Syndrome can also cure Autism Spectrum Disorders(inclusing Asperger's Syndrome). So watch the vedio closely.

My point was that it the cure would be more similar to each other than that of a cure for autism, because rather than manipulating chromosomes, it's manipulating individual genes across multiple chromosomes.

In order to cure autism with any kind of gene therapy, they would first have to know the cause(s) of autism. No one is currently claiming to have anything like a comprehensive understanding of the causes, or even to be close to such an understanding. I think the statement about such techniques being applicable to ASDs is much more vague and theoretical than you seem to think.

I swear to all things good and pure that I hear the word "cure for autism/Aspersger's' one more time I will scream until I lose my voice for a week. You'd think it was more important and miraculous than finding a cure for cancer or HIV or Ebola. I. am. So. Sick. Of. IT!! !! !

I DID NOT SAY I want a cure for Asperger's Syndrome. In fact I am AGAINST having a cure for Asperger's Syndrome. Now if the antidode cure was going for those Angelman Syndrome kids and adults as well as Alziehmers people and paitents with other similar disorders, I would not mind. Angelman Syndrome is a condition that robs you of a normal typical life with all the symptons and detrioration that Angelman Syndrome comes with. Therefore, a cure would be useful in the area of Angelman Syndrome because it would give a typically able life back to all these kids and adults with Angelman Syndrome. The antidode for Asperger's Syndrome which was developed by a cure for Angelman Syndrome, would be useless in Asperger people since they still get to live a typically able life unlike Angelman patients. In fact curing Asperger Syndrome would have a NEGATIVE impact on the world by robbing the world of creativity making the world have no more advancements in technology. If you read my primary post on the top CAREFULLY rather than simply blabbing out at my post without checking like you did, you might get the point. IF YOU LOOK AT THE VIDEO ABOVE, YOU CAN HEAR THE EXPERTS SAY THAT CURING ANGELMAN MIGHT LEAD TO A CURE FOR AUTISM. It will be good for these Angelman kids by bad for Aspies.

Can we stop with this nonsense that Asperger's is about being a scientist, inventor, or genius?

"Might" is a vaguely defined term. The claim in the video is that this kind of treatment might be used for "any kind of neurological disorder" the thing is they don't mention a time scale for these new therapies.

Honestly, a gene therapy IS NOT on the horizon for any kind of ASD. The fact that someone makes a vague claim that one thing or another might lead to a cure someday is not a cause for alarm.

I'm unaware that there is any evidence that autism is exclusively caused by genetics like Downs Syndrome. From all I have read - the scientific consensus is that there is a genetic component in autism just as there is a genetic component in all kinds of disorders. I don't think that it is believed in the scientific community that autism is simply caused by genetics though. Even if it were - it sounds like the complexity of autism related genetics is vast and probably far beyond a mode of treatment that can cure.
