Just a question. In the diagnostic criteria, it constitutes only one of three bullet points, so...

I'm good with nonverbal cues but bad with situational cues. I can understand when someone is uncomfortable or stuff, but when it comes to more overarching concepts, I'm a little to concrete-minded, i.e. if I don't see any immediate signals I shouldn't, I will.

My mother was also always very sarcastic and I learned how to detect sarcasm before most of my NT peers!

That's pretty much me. I can tell obvious thing like anger, but subtle things are a freaking challenge. I have a difficult time gauging if someone liked something I said or is upset by it immediately afterward. I also have situational cue problems as well.

I've actually been able to pick up pretty well on sign language, etc nowadays. I guess playing L.A. Noire and a bunch of other situations has helped me.

I miss my copy of LA Noire. A former friend has it and I really don't want to talk to them and get it back. Very good game, though. I still had trouble with non verbals even after playing that game through about 10 times. It's kinda like putting the dog on the phone with me and non verbals at times.

I used to think I was good with non verbal cues.

Then I realized that I was so bad with them that I was totally unaware of what I wasn't getting. I did not understand that this was connected to people seeming to change their attitudes toward me at random, or people who I thought I had good relationships with turned out to be bitter enemies, while people I thought were hostile turned out to be allies.

If you are bad a reading non-verbal cues, you may also be bad at evaluating your abilities in this area.

That's real funny. I suppose I used to have a problem with body language but for some reason I got better at it. I guess some people get the hang of it better than others.

As far as I can tell, I have an average ability to read nonverbal cues. In practice, I do miss much of it because I don't look at people's faces when I'm talking to them.

Then again, this could be the case. I don't know how I could measure it objectively. I do well on the "Mind in the Eyes" type tests, but I'm skeptical that they accurately reflect real-life ability.
