I've been tested and diagnsosed with AS / PDD-NOS. I have a difficulty listening and paying attention when instructed to do something and because I'm not interested I don't pay attention to signs and landmarks so I can get lost even going to a neighbors house a few houses away. I don't really act hyper but if you're talking to me about something boring or I'm on my laptop, I physically can't hear you. So what I want to know is if others have this difficulty as well and if not does that mean I have both disorders?

I live with a friend's family and spend all my day in the bedroom on my laptop and I really like organizing my stuff I do this about every day. I don't like people touching my stuff. I feel like my friend thinks I'm mean when I yell at him for touching my stuff :?

I think all people with AS suffers from ADHD to some extent. My daughter will also ignore you if she is playing on her laptop and you try to talk to her. Thats why I ask her to stop playing (or reading) and looking at me before talking. She is also pretty bad following instructions.

If you live with a friend's family, yelling at people because they touched your stuff is not a good idea. I think you need to control yourself and talk in a good maner, or you might find yourself in a pretty uncomfortalr situation very fast.

Everyone on the spectrum does not have ADHD, but about 60-75% of autistic people also meet the criteria for ADHD.

I'm diagnosed with both. Several others on this forum are as well.

Yes people can have both.

I have ADD, not ADHD.

These days, the diagnoses are ADHD-PH (predominantly hyperactive) which practically no one has, ADHD-PI (predominantly inattentive, often referred to as "ADD") which probably 1/3 of people diagnosed with ADHD are diagnosed with, and ADHD-C (combined type -hyperactive and inattentive), which the majority of people with ADHD are diagnosed with.

ADD as an official diagnosis was actually phased out with the DSM-IV.

Well I was diagnosed with it in 1995. :?

I was also suspected as having ADHD but never got diagnosed with it and my mom says I don't have it and it's ADD.

It might have been retired with the DSM-IV-TR, then, which I think would be after 1995.

But at this point, ADHD-PI means what ADD meant before. Not that it's wrong to use ADD by preference, just that it's not wrong to refer to it as ADHD either.

I've got ADHD-C as well as AS. I also have Tourettes. Unfortunately when you have one condition it seems to attract others with it! So yes, unfortunately it is possible to have both and more!

I have a friend with ADHD (quite severe), and he shares a lot in commin with me, like fear of loud noises and some difficulties when it comes to socialising. Often people take him the wrong way and think he's being rude or nasty when I know that's the last thing he wants to do. But he's never been diagnosed with AS before, only ADHD, and he has better social skills than I ever will but he is not typically social. He did have some issues with friends all through school.

I have been diagnosed with both. Specifically PDD-NOS, and ADD.

Yeah. Of course you can have both.

Been DXd with ADHD a couple of months ago. While I have not been formally DXd with AS, I do feel I probably have that too. But with my health insurance being what it is, AS in middle-aged women is not recognized.

You have ADHD without the hyperactivity component. Officially, there is no "ADD" there is only ADHD with or without hyperactivity. It is informally referred to as ADD if you don't have hyperactivity, but it is technically still ADHD.

Confusing, I know, but you can't have ADD but not ADHD.

I've been diagnosed with both.
I find that the suckiest part is that with the AS, I am constantly aware of every freakin noise in the background which aggravates the attention deficit, giving me very few periods of stable concentration. Toss in all the other unfiltered sensory input and some days It's just plain hell.

I have both but not paying attention because you're not interested is not ADHD. ADHD is struggling to pay attention on what interests you too with little bursts of over attention which is usually something you do to avoid doing an important task, though sometimes this can be used constructively.
Also, being so absorbed on something that you don't hear people is an autistic symptom too. People with ADHD do it too but I wouldn't say it's an exclusive symptom.

You can also be hyperactive or the opposite of hyperactive, commonly known as inattentive which is more of a fogginess and tiredness whereas hyperactive ADHD can focus but not for very long and get distracted easily or gets over focused and wastes all that concentration because they end up exhausted. And there's a need to move around constantly.
