there seems to be an element of hostility in your words.
i do not think it is good to posit yourself as a "veteran" and tell new members anything with the imputation that you are a representative of the rest of the people on this forum.

I think the intention was for any interested veterans to post their own nuggets of experience for new people. It's maybe a little presumptuous, but new members don't have to read it.

I can't think of any paradigms to share right now, so I'd just say "welcome aboard"

Don't let the more blunt/abrupt people here scare you away.....I can't help thinking some newer people have done just that when I wish they'd stick around and see there are plenty of compassionate supportive people...and that any website will have its drama, people acting like jerks(sometimes such people might just be having a bad day). Though I have seen some sites that have a much more apparent 'scare the newbies into leaving' attitude than this one.

I'd think people should know in that context it just means, someone who's been here a long time...not necessarily that they represent everyone here. Either way not sure hostility was intended would have to see what the OP says..their intent was.

i suppose i was hasty in my interpretation of her post. i am not a good judge of intent.
i can see that saying "Be yourself" can mean "don't hold back or be shy" with the implication that "it does not matter how you are, you will be accepted", but the use of the word "lie" was what tripped my interpretation toward the negative.
a lie is a deliberately presented falsehood, and it is an act of deception, and i thought she was saying akin to "don't misrepresent yourself as autistic if you are not". i was probably wrong and am interested to hear what she further has to say.

Interesting.
My interpretation was:

"take this advice from someone who has been here for a while: it's better just to be authentic, don't try to hide or show off, but be honest and sincere."

I think EzraS interpreted it that way, too.
