Hi kraftiekortie and thanks for sharing. That's a beautiful name, Myrna.

And once again, thank you for your comments the other day. I appreciated it very much. Pity we're in different countries. I think we could've gotten together for a drink (coffee, beer). I'm versatile :)

No, I'm in Sydney. I also forgot where you are. Was it near Hell Gate Bridge or did you just know about it?

How dumb of me!! !! ---We did discuss the Hell Gate Bridge and its extreme similarities to Sydney's bridge.

I'm probably about 8 or so miles from Hell Gate Bridge (which is located in Queens, New York City, New York). I live in the same borough (Queens).

I've always been planning to go to America some day (after my Mum passes away - she's 73). After that, there's nothing left here for me and I was planning to sell my car and go to America - a life long dream. Maybe we could get together then for an ice-cream soda or two.

Do you have a special name for ice-cream sodas in Australia?

In Rhode Island (for some reason), they are known as "cabinets."

Cabinets? No, never heard of that one.

Well, a lime soda we call a spider. Don't know why.

I'm not sure if it even has to be a lime fizzy drink but they're nice.

So, you're near where "The King Of Queens" and "Everybody Loves Raymond" are supposed to be based?!

Both those shows are based in Queens County, New York City, New York State.

The joke: Queens is on Long Island, but is not considered "on Long Island" by locals. You're only "on Lawn Guyland" if you go east of Queens, into Nassau County. It's always "on Long Island," rather than "at Long Island," or "in Long Island."

When you take the "train," you take the subway. Otherwise, you take the "railroad."

"The King of Queens" looks like it's based in the Glendale, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park, places like that--all sections of Queens. Just like "All in the Family."

Ray Romano grew up not far from me--even though I never met him.

The main guy from "The King of Queens," and most of the characters from "Everybody Loves Raymond," have New York accents.

I also have a New York-Queens accent.

Both of those shows are based in Queens but they were taped in the San Fernando Valley, as is "2 Broke Girls" which purports to originate from Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Coney Island is long since not an island, so people live ON Long Island City or do they live IN it? Much as they live IN Manhattan when they're really ON it[/off topic]

Mynah birds are interesting creatures; an old neighbor of mine had one when he lived in Sweden, there's the unforgettable scene from Cheech & Chong's "Up In Smoke", and THE Mynah Birds were an early 60s Toronto-based band featuring Rick James and Neil Young

Coney Island is in Brooklyn. You live IN Long Island City, which is part of Queens. Nassau and Suffolk County is ON Long Island. Both are not part of NYC. Manhattan is a separate island in NYC.
