My name is Vicky I have a son on the spectrum and a daughter currently being assessed for autism. I have now got the courage to get my self a diagnosis as I have always felt like I have never fitted in with my peers and I find social cues very difficult to understand.

Anyway I have been referred to Leeds Mental Health... so hopefully this is the start of my journey of getting a diagnosis...

any advice?

Hi Vicky,

It sounds like you are doing the right thing. It's best to get tested because then you will know what the problem is and you can get some support for it. I was just diagnosed with High Functioning Autism last week after 22 years of not knowing for sure what was wrong with me. Before the diagnosis, I found it very difficult going through years of having all these social problems and struggling with every day life with no explanation or understanding of why. Now with a diagnosis, I know why I've had all these problems and I know who I need to see for advice. The National Autism Society are going to visit me and hopefully give advice on things to do/people to see. Hopefully, if you are diagnosed, the same will happen for you.

Best of luck,
Jack

Hi jack

I'm pleased you have your diagnosis and now you can get the help you deserve.

Some days I wake up and feel anxious and dont know why...

I did the 9:1 test and scored 43 I know it isn't a diagnosis but thought I would try the test out.

If you get a doctor that you don't feel understands you, or that you're not comfortable with, DON'T GIVE-UP HOPE----just get another doctor. It'll be a bummer, you'll have to start all over, with someone else; but, it'll be sooooo worth it, in the end. Good luck!!
