Here locally in Richmond, BC, Canada, near the Vancouver International Airport. They have future plans of building up to 8 more smaller centres around the Province, too. $20M came from the Province of British Columbia, the rest from private philanthropists.

Hopefully it turns out to be a great resource centre for a lot of people that can then be used as a model for other centres to be based upon.

Thought you guys might like to hear news like this.

Another waste of money. If you read through the article is not about helping the autistic people, it is to help the families of them as they are the ones who should be pitied. Stuff like this makes me sick, it is all about the families of those who are truly suffering and never about the person.

This line sickens me the most “It (autism) creates all kinds of suffering, for the parents, for the families." Who cares about the autistic person when you have their poor family have to look after them.

What I got from the article, is.....

When one of a family's members has an ASD, the center is there to help EVERY MEMBER of the family. It'll have services for the ASDer, as well as, for instance, counseling for the parents / guardians, and siblings, to give them information on coping / understanding, so they can be even MORE help to the ASDer. I think it's GOOD that they are considering the WHOLE family. I think, often, people forget what a toll it can take on everybody ELSE, in the family, as well. It doesn't mean that there won't be any services for the ASDer.

I don't think the strain on families of autistic children should be discounted. I think this is potentially a great resource.

Did anyone else notice the side story about the pitbull that killed Tiny, the autism therapy dog?:

So upsetting. I have a pitbull and they are hard to manage. Mine never goes out without a muzzle.
