I've seen websites that use the term "A**pie: or "Sperg/Spergy" to insult people with Aspergers. What makes these terms different from terms like "Aspergian," "Aspergic" and "Aspie" in your opinion? I know I was particularly insulted by a schoolmate using the term "A**burgers."

The only differences are the context used and why they were created.

It's obvious what the difference is: they use an insulting word (Ass) to denote Asperger's.

nicknaming something seems to be a way to add a connotation that is otherwise not there, can be affection or disgust or something else someone applies to it. But to use the full name of something seems to inherently be more neutral/respectful/informative.

I have used the term Asspie or Assbugers to refer to aspies who are jerks and not very nice people.

The other terms are just nicknames for people who have those conditions and they were never made up to insult us with it.

I think any term can be used as an insult like ret*d has been and autistic or autism.

There is that Southpark episode about "assburgers," could be a reference to that. I didn't find it offensive though it didn't much to do with autism (mostly just a lot of gross stuff about hamburgers).

Guess it depends on the context/how they are using the terms. But as a general rule it seems in poor taste for a non-autistic person to use slurs like that.

I've never understand why other aspies get so offended when people use autism as an insult on the internet. I do it all the time, nobody cares. It's just words on a screen

(say) on 4chan, specifically /int/ which i like to go on, i see "autism" most often used in map collections, Victoria 2 and similar game threads, or flag collection threads, etc. unless it's a generalization meant to say all autistics have flag/map obsessions i'm also not sure how that can really be offensive.

asspie is of course more insulting to me because it has an insult (albeit a mildish one) deliberately inserted in it. an ill intentioned play on words, it's pronounced the same as 'aspie'.

i've heard some people say what sounds like "assburgers" but i don't really care because, maybe they meant to say 'aspergers' and that's just how they pronounced it?

calling someone an "aspie" is easier than calling them "(a) person with asperger's". dunno about "spergy". might describe behaviors commonly associated with ASD people, like back and forth rocking.

"autism" when used on the internet typically refers to the sort of cringe-worthy behavior often displayed by people with autism, particularly autistic man-children such as chris-chan. sure it's in poor taste, but it's the internet what do you expect. most of the people who use it don't really have anything against autism, just idiots who act out.

"asspies"- usually only see this used on people claiming to have aspergers as an excuse for their sh***y online behavior and/or being a terrible human being

"assburgers"- similar to above

"sperg"- (noun) someone having a temper tantrum in a similar manner to an autistic child; (verb) to have a temper tantrum in such a manner

For the most part when i see someone insulting someone by calling them autistic i scoff and laugh at them for bothering to use such an insult, as it's mostly just the hot buzzword insult these days.

On another note i kinda like the insult spergnugget. I don't why, maybe it's because it just sounds inherently funny.
