Just had an aggressive meltdown. Right hand bust up a bit. Thankfully I'm left handed. Recycling is always on a Tuesday on this street. Today is Monday. The recycling van came today. I missed it. I'm orally nonverbal right now as a result of the meltdown but can type on phone with one hand.

How does one cope with change?

I'm going on a three day holiday with my mum over Christmas. Thankfully it's an internal flight.

But how will I cope with the change? I've been having nightmares every night about it.

If I can't cope with the recycling being on the wrong day, how can I cope with a holiday?

It's tough - try not to think about it too much or it'll just get you very anxious beforehand.

And when travelling for Christmas, try to find quiet spots where you can relax a bit and feel a bit more comfortable. Let your Mom know you need this and that it'll help.

Take care. :D

Is there a way you could find out why the recycling van came today, instead of tomorrow. Maybe call the local Council where you live?

Once you get the reason, you could set out your stuff on the correct day, thereby avoiding a meltdown.

Thank you both.

I looked on my London borough's council website and they said next collection is on the 30th of December. So after my holiday I will be able to dispose of all that recycling.

As for the holiday, I had a texting conversation with my mum just now about it and she promised that she would accommodate my difficulties.

Even better news - she promised not to drink wine (she was alcoholic for 17 years and wine makes her go, well, crazy. She's been sober for a year now and I'm trying to prevent her from going back to alcohol).

Sometimes preparation helps me some -- knowing what things will look like and what will happen.

So, for a holiday, maybe:

Knowing about where you will stay and anywhere you might visit -- maybe finding pictures of the place(s), or of the area(s);

Knowing what you will do (would your mum be agreeable to some kind of schedule?);

Knowing how you will get around (walk, public transit, taxi).

I'll ask my mum to go through the holiday itinerary with me tomorrow and I'll write it down as a plan. I will research the hotel.

Thank you.

I will be taking 0.5mg clonazepam bd during the holiday. That will reduce any somewhat illogical anxiety. However my sensory systems are faulty.
