Hello.

I have not been formally diagnosed with Asperger's but it was suggested by my old counsellor that I am. I have just 1 friend. I actually don't know what to say or why I joined! I guess I am looking to be accepted. Many people I befriend don't like me after a couple of months and really have no idea why. I have been married twice. The first marriage was for 9 years and the last one left me in July which lasted 16 years. He couldn't handle me anymore and I was causing him major depression. Anyway, please tell me how you guys cope with life!

Did they ever tell you why they don't like you or why your spouses left?

That sounds like my first marriage. She just wanted to get a divorce and I had no idea why. That was when I was young. Luckily in my older age I've learned a few things such as awareness to what I do, what affects, and how I react. It's very interesting.

Why does your counselor think you are on the Autism Spectrum?

I am very socially awkward. I struggle to read people, for example I'm very passionate about my raccoons. I talk for England about them to people not actually realising they are getting bored with it. My daughter often tells me to shut up when with me talking. I hate going out, stresses me out. Also I have high levels of anxiety. As a child I had no friends. I would always shout out of turn in the class room. I showed no emotion. As an example my mum was very excited to buy my first bike. She knew I really wanted one. When I saw it on Christmas Day my sister was jumping up and down with excitement. My reply apparently was "that's nice". I cannot cope with any disruption to my days plan. Don't like surprises. Don't always get jokes. Another example, if my mum gets upset or angry with someone she tends to tell me. I always seem to take it on that she is angry with me. People I make friends with don't stay around to long. I don't like looking at peoples eyes. It makes me feel really uneasy. I have learnt to glance at them and flit my eyes on and off from them. Sometimes I will focus on their shoulder so it looks like I'm looking at them and showing interest. I also find that I'm very direct. Again an example...I blurted out to my friends son that I find him attractive. He is also aspie and now he is avoiding me. I have tried asking my last ex why he left me. He just said he can't cope with my obsessions. He said I hoard things. But he just gets so angry and starts ranting at me then I cannot take in what he is saying. I think I should stay on my own. The whole thing is just stressing me out!

Also I drive my kids nuts listening to the same "dirty dancing soundtracks album" over and over. I'm also a deep thinking constantly analysing myself. A conversation I may have had the day before with my friend, I will analyse it over and over. I have ridiculous insomnia. My doc has me on sleeping pills and I still cannot stay asleep.

You might be. :D

The best combo for sleep is Ambien and Melatonin.

I'd get an official diagnosis and just start talking about it to people you are comfortable with.

Racoons are interesting. Not sure about Dirty Dancing though. You ever see the movie? "Nobody puts Baby in a corner..." lol

What else do you think about? Are you philosophical in outlook? If so, you'll find many people whom you could converse with here on WP.

I think I am. I'm never satisfied by given information. I always question and doubt. A true deep thinker. Many people have different perceptions on varying topics. I often think about how we became a human race...where did it all start? What is it like to be dead? Why are we here? What is life all about? How do other people perceive you? What is it to be normal in society? Are we (aspies) the next line in evolution?

Don't have kids living with me, but absolutely love Dirty Dancing on DVD. Also tend to think a lot about previous conversations when I come up with all sorts of things I should have or could have said but didn't.

Living alone and retired have no need to keep "normal" hours, so when I wake at 2.00am, 3.00am, 4.00am whenever, I'll do some chores, wander around the house, make a cup of tea and chat on forums like this. Stopped worrying about it, so now just sleep when I feel like it.

Alison

I think this "Aspies are evolved" theorem is nonsense. I believe we evolved from an apelike creature.

Nothing wrong with being skeptical...but we must also believe there are truths, too. Otherwise, our lives will be like a perpetual Sisyphus.

Hi, I want to to do that diagnostic criteria but that is almost impossible on my Ipad. Is there the same one that can be done online?
