Yes it is a question that people have asked me through the years. So What Do you do to socialise? Or What do you do for fun?

I find I hate being asked that question I find it very awkward as well.

I get very cagey when asked that kind of question.

I remember around the time of my diagnosis I used to get school teachers ask about my ‘Social Life’ outside of school as if it is their business. Or teachers being concerned about my lack of a social life outside of school hours.

I did have a group of friends at school sometimes we would meet up outside but I always thought that holiday time and my time at home should be dedicated to me. That was how I thought especially at Secondary School.

When they ask what I do for fun I just list my special interests.

When I'm at school and come across ads or marketing for social events, I attend them if the event
is interesting to me.

If not, then I disregard the event.

When people ask me what I'm doing over the weekend or what I did over the weekend, I know they won't and don't think much of me because my lack of weekend plans indicate my low social status.

When they(NT's) ask what I do for fun,I simply say "not much"and walk away, basically ignoring them otherwise becasue I believe that they are faking it, and pretending to friendly towards me without actually meaning it,but overall,I don't try to have conversations with any NT's unless it's strictly for work related reasons. It's just another example of NT's being patronizing towards Aspies.

This question just opens the door to talk about my special interests and how they allow me to socialize without being to stressful. I enjoy being among others that enjoy model or real trains, so that is my socializing outlet. But it still leaves me exhausted at the end of the day and I want to be left alone to recover once the socializing is over. AD

Special and regular interests for me, but yeah, that.

I will often say something like "I teach dogs to play poker"

They don't usually ask follow-up questions.

I don't mind, because now I have social events to attend.

I tell people that I visit my family most weekends out of the month when they ask me that question.

In ninth grade, a student asked me what classes I was taking. Answered weight training. She asked why. Told her what the instructor said

She had the nerve to ask me who do you want to beat up?

So now that I have taken aikido lessons over ten years, over 450 lessons. Could not imagine the :jester: misconception :jester: :ninja:  precious lil "people" have.

It is easier to just not talk about it

Since the end of September 2012, I started a hobby, involving going to as many different bathrooms as possible for bowel movements:

Bed bath and beyond
Starbucks
Barnes and Noble
Petco
Trader Joe's
Peet's
Pier1
Office Depot
Home Depot
Target
Best buy
Nordstrom
Taco Bell
McDonald's
Trader Joe's
Lucky's
Whole foods
Kohl's
Joanne's
Michael's
Toys r us

 :jester: :jester: :nerdy: :skull:

It has been between one and seven different locations a week. And counting

Many precious lil "people" overreact when I tell them

Even professional counselors

  :x 8) :o :ninja:

The current counselor, I have not even told about the hobby

Yes!

I relate so much to this. I know the other person is just making conversation, but I just feel like a boring loser.

Granted I am just a "boring loser" (fine)

But precious lil "people," act like they are so fascinating, interesting, exciting, important, awesome, morally innocent, cool, awesome
