Based on what I've heard people think in both ways but prefer one over the other

Visual thinkers tend to think in a visual-spatial way, "seeing" what they are thinking as images or diagrams in the mind.

Verbal thinkers tend to think in terms of sounds and spoken language, like an internal voice in the mind.

I'm a visual thinker.

I am a verbal thinker 50%. I think also in 'definitions'. These are not things you see, hear or feel. It is quite abstract and difficult to explain.

Externally I like visual things but internally I can not visualize whatsoever. I have to translate. What is funny is when you ask people where they see these images relatively, whether they interrupt, how they are contained, etc. They are not so sure that they know for certain. It is weird, I guess they can experience it without being able to make these deductions.

I believe that it is about 50-50 each way. It all depends on what I am thinking about.

Extremely verbal. There are words spinning round in my head all the time.

The idea of thinking in pictures seems totally bizarre to me. Except when I'm playing chess.

Sounds like a simple question at first reading, but then I find I'm not quite sure. I know that I fantasize a lot, and those are definitely visual, scenes with people, places and things. That's probably the predominate way I think.

I'm more of a visual thinker...

I think I know what you're talking about. That's pretty much how I think too; partially verbal, partially in the abstract, but not so much visually. I usually have to make a conscious effort to actually visualize things (except when I'm daydreaming).

Both, but visual is moderately dominant.

Extremely verbal---I get in trouble quite a bit for blurting things out which are riotously funny to me---either the juxtaposition of thoughts/words or the context only I'm aware of---people think I'm being snarky when I'm merely expressing enthusiasm ( My sister says don't try to communicate, unless you're sure they are on your wavelength; they'll probably take it the wrong way...misunderstood or mute, hardly seems fair. So I continue to blurt and horror of horrors-email- and tell people I have " TEXAS TOURRETTES" intractable bluntness with the near inability to self-censor.My brain feels onfire with words, nearly always...

I think in music a lot of the time. Sometimes, the only way I can emotionally connect to my environment or situation is by imagining a song that corresponds with the "feel" of whatever I am experiencing. I usually have images in my mind to accompany this.

I have a whole internal library of pieces and snippets of music, each with a symbolic meaning.

I'm similar. I would say it is like 70% feeling(not really audio or visual). I use that when driving, walking, most programming, etc... 10% visual(for browsing stores, finding new routes, trying to describe things, reenforcing learning, etc...) And about 20% audio.(planning out what to say, remembering what was said, learning vocabulary, and, unfortunately, usually reading and math).

That's mostly how I think too. Some of my thoughts are also in words; it's like I'm constantly translating the original concepts into English in my head (except when I hit something that can't be translated). I'm not at all good at visualizing; the best I can get is a blurry image.

When I was in school, teachers spoke of 3 types of thinkers: visual, auditory, and tactile. I don't think I really fit into any of those categories. I learn best by thinking about things, using the knowledge to create ideas and questions. I think in images and words.

My memory works better in pictures. To give an example, I have a poor sense of direction. When I am driving it is easy for me to get lost. I have discovered that if I study a map for awhile, it "imprints" in my head. Later when I am lost, I call up the map in my head, orient myself to where I physically am in relation to the map then I can figure out where I am and where I need to go. I can also zoom in and zoom out. Honestly, it looks like having MapQuest in my head (or whatever "get directions" website you prefer).

I remember in college sometimes when I was taking a test and I got to a question I could not answer, a picture of my notes would come up in my head and I could go down the page and pick out the answer. However, a lot of the time, the answers would just pop in my head without a picture.

I'm a spatial thinker... I don't just make images in my mind, I make 3d holograms in my mind...
