Hello everyone, first message on this forum!

I've known about my AS since I was around 14. I've been diagnosed since I was 10 (my mother didn't tell me).

I've had a lot of support with my issues and so have overcome most of the problems associated with AS.

I recently moved into a house, total culture shock. The day I moved in something weird started happening with my brain.

I've tried to explain this to many people including two doctors because I've been feeling this for a number of months now and I hate it.

When you are really, really tired you feel detached and retracted from the world, like you arn't in full control. Similar as to when you have drunk a little too much but arn't drunk yet. I get this constantly... 24 hours a day!

Has anyone else experienced this? I hate it SO much, I don't know what's caused it or how to get rid of it... I'm at my wits' end...

Andrew

Try to reduce your intake of B5.

Could you give some more information on your reasoning?

Wikipedia says sources of B5 are "Small quantities of pantothenic acid are found in most foods [2], with high quantities found in whole grain and eggs. Pantothenic acid can also be found in many dietary supplements (as calcium-D-pantothenate), and some energy drink companies are now adding pantothenic acid to their beverages."

Of which I don't eat too much or too little.

As I recall, extreeme overdoses of B5 can cause the kind of feeling you describe. It would have to be a MASSIVE overdose though. If you aren't conciously taking such a large dose, you likely don't have a problem with an overdose.

I dont know if I am experiencing exactly what you are talking about but there have been a few here who have described a similiar sensation of detachment from life and their bodies. Some call it....dissociation.I dont know,my DR says that is not what I am experiencing because I feel it ALL the time but it is worse in social situations and when changes occur(stress).

I dont have an answer as to what this is or what causes it.I think it was worse before I went on thyroid medications.Perhaps it could be related to hormone inbalance?DR generally ignore this type of "symptom" because it could be cause d by so many things but it is easier to blame it on psychological causes then to actually find out through scientific investigation. It doesnt help that it is such a difficult thing to put into words, unlike having a limb ripped off....

I dont know if this is AS related or not because many here didnt seem to relate but some do.I have been experiencing this since around 15 but the level that I notice it does seem to change in degree.Seems change and stress do make it worse.

Eat more meat! ,,and Bannanas can help you to feel happy.

-Vitamin definciencies on the whole can cause the 'Light Headed - unreal' feeling. -Meat , high in iron and ease for the body to digest can help with providing, Thinking Energy and vitality.

-The problem is eating on the Whole - 'feels wrong' when you are in this state. ...a little bit of force feeding to fatten yourself up a little could help. -do you have any Fat reserves?

-I often see, the vegan types - complain about, sensory issues, they seem to look like they 'feel' thier on a another planet.... eating like the rest of the human race should help alot. (With the exception of naughty foods like the processed junk you can get today)

an edit:

You may also have this feeling when waking up late. - Waking up 'out of sync' with the world... no matter how hard you try, the whole day just seems 'ruined' and unreal, untill the next day when you wake up on time. ...do your Saturdays feel more 'unreal' than your school days? -maybe a good sleep could help too.

Not certain but I think that I get this periodically. Usually stress is the cause. I will quite suddenly become disassociated, it is as if I am outside myself, driving me by remote control. And just like remote control I have NO feel for self. A full drgree of separation.

You have recently had major life alterations. Could you be stressed out?

Thanks to everyone for your response! It's nice to see that I am not alone...

I feel like it could be a combination of three things.

AS
Bad diet (not junk food, just not enough vitamins)
Stress (I don't feel stressed, but I wouldn't because of the AS)

Very informative...thanks!

Any more responses would be gratelly recieved

Just watch it you don't start popping Vitamin Pills instead of eating ... it's better to be fat, then to look like Paris Hilton and be an Air head. :D

DIABETES? --I think you need to see a doctor?

Diabetics will also feel light headed - some people will live thier lives like this never knowing. ...Please see the doctor. (You can be diabetic too being thin, but the likelyhood is less)

-I for one thought I was diabetic for a while, when I gained alot of weight from 69kg to 105kg in under 6 months , in about a year I started to feel strange,, then I started exercising, I am now at hhmmm let's just say 90kg (probably more) ... and feel better... I don't exercise alot, just enough to keep me feeling normal.

I also thought this, but couldn't pursuade my doctor to specifically test for it.

The blood test I am taking tuesday includes a glucose test, which I assume is to test for diabetes?

We will find out then :)

You MAY be able to get a test kit from your local pharmacy, to test for diabetes. As for the blood test, there are four basic types:

1. The home type which is only good for a current reading.
2. THE most common in US doctors is like #1, but requires you to FAST for like 24 hours. It is far more accurate.
3. A glycogen test that can effectively replace the simpler #2 test if you DON'T fast.
4. ANOTHER test like #2 that tests you over a period of time to see how you actually handle the sugar.

Maybe its emotional, try having a interesting conversation with someone, a friend or family member. Bring up an exciting moment, reminisce, next thing you find exciting or interesting let someone know. Then see how you feel then, i think its just some kind of emotional detachment maybe due to stress, once you begin to feel comfortable about this new moving issue, youlle once again be in the moment so to speak, IN control. I think its all in your head mang.
