No, this is not a poll.
I ran across this video (two parts) on youtube and thought it had a lot of valuable content that others might be interested in here.
It's basically an experiment using 5 subjects with disorders and 5 subjects without disorders, and a panel of 3 expert psyche doctors (working collectively) have to try and determine which are which after 5 days of testing.

I think the results are very interesting, and may also have much relevance to the discussion here about the validity and exclusion of professional diagnosis.

part-2

*SPOILERS* WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE READING THIS POST

That was really cool. I totally had Stuart picked out as bipolar, and Kamille as having social anxiety. I was convinced that Vicki had schizophrenia, and was very curious about her thought processes during the ball test. I'm surprised the doctors didn't get the apparent symptoms of schizophrenia mixed up with bipolar disorder, as, during manic episodes, the two can look strikingly similar. I would have loved for them to have had someone with an autism diagnosis in the group, though I suppose that would have been too obvious :)

MORE SPOILERS

I had Yasmine as bipolar right from the offing. I strongly suspected Dan as being OCD; OCD can be secretive, but that doesn't mean it's actually hidden. I didn't see social anxiety in any of them. I actually suspected Alex of having anorexia; she had the look of someone whose known hunger in her eyes, someone who has starved. Reminded of pictures I have seen. She also struck me as being ASD. I guess that isn't surprising since she has anorexia and it is known that there are girls with anorexia who have lots of ASD traits and I didn't see any social anxiety in her though the panel did. I thought Vikki was schizophrenic. I thought Stuart didn't have anything but I really liked him. I didn't think Holly had anything and was annoyed that the panel were trying to label her with something.

And I wonder if the panel would be that humble if they weren't on camera or in danger of having their beliefs or opinions openly contradicted. I wonder what psychological tests they underwent before being cleared to participate in this exercise. None of them seemed narcissistic and I have been in the "clutches" of narcissistic professionals before.

QuiversWhiskers' comment about how the psychs on the panel were screened reminded me of something else I'd thought of. Even before one of the doctors mentioned that he'd had depression, I suspected there was something different about him; he kept making comments about how they could be horribly wrong in their assumptions, and that he wasn't at all confident in their ability to successfully identify those with mental disorders; those comments sound a lot like those a person suffering from depression or low self-esteem would make.

I picked up on that very early on. To me, he seemed the most real, and the least arrogant and narcissistic of the three. He was also very correct in his questioning of the other's judgments.
The one on the far left seemed like narcissistic personality disorder to me.

Except that is a logical approach. They don't have much experience in diagnosing in this style. And it is required to be sensitive and inform the subjects of the tentative nature of the study at the time of confrontation.

if you watch the movie "network" it will become clear. it was a play on words relating to the title of this thread "how MAD are you?" and the protagonist of "Network" famously emoted, "I'm as MAD as HELL and I'm NOT gonna take it anymore!"

I was only young when I saw that but that scene made the biggest impression on me. I think that's about the only part of the movie I remember. That was excellent though :)

"I'm as MAD as HELL and I'm NOT going to take this ANYMORE!! !" MAGIC!! ! :)

That is just awesome, and for another reason as well.
I had never before seen any of this in my life, but for 4 days ago when I saw the first part of it as a part of another youtube video I was watching. That seems like synchronicity to me, - a meaningful connection without any apparent causality.
I know youtube will suggest other videos to you based on certain commonalities, but it doesn't really seem to be the case with this. I was watching BBC documentaries about quantum physics when it suggested the "How mad are you" video.

The "I'm not going to take it" clip was part of a video I had seen a couple of days before that was about the Venus Project. Maybe youtube did make the connection somehow.

Oh, okay. I didn't know the movie and the play on words with the thread title went way over my head. I thought Kraftie was saying he was mad about the difficulties and errors and ambiguity involved in the psychiatric field or that he was expressing annoyed sarcasm at another thread bringing up the issue of diagnostic validity.

I guess it's my turn to be dense, AuntBlabby. I'mAnAspie, I think this might have scared me when I was little :)

Correct, however, saying, "We're being extremely tentative about this because it's not the diagnostic style we're used to" is very different from saying, "We could be very wrong about this," and "I'm not very confident about this." Not to mention, he could have said it once or twice to make his point, but he said it almost every time he was on camera, which makes the difference between ordinary caution and the lack of confidence associated with depression.
