I guess what I mean is by the standards of society. Is it possible to be really sweet and kind and get along with everybody and be one of those people that other people say things about like, Oh she just lights up a room (if you are Autistic)?

A lot of people think I'm obnoxious (of course I think they are wrong and could give you 50 rational reasons why, but that doesn't mean anything out there). I actually think I'm one of the nicest people I know as far as action, but I speak bluntly and get frustrated easily.

I'm just curious about this - is it easy for anyone here to be around people and be successful at it?

Also, because I know more than a few people who are mean, but are wildly popular (I mean mean as in, being mean in action, not speech - doing things they know will cause harm to others).

But does anybody ever tell you that you are (or something similar)?

People used to...when I was much younger.

These days, only people with whom I disagree (such as my wife) might tell me that I'm obnoxious. Especially after proving them wrong

Wow, that's interesting. Are you the same in RL as you are here?

Pretty much.

I don't speak as well in RL, though. I'm also shy about giving advice in RL--my mind sometimes goes blank on these sorts of occasions.

I'm glad I found WrongPlanet. I feel like I've established a little niche here.

People say I am difficult and high maintenance sometimes, and unlike many here I want but don't have friends. However, even people who don't like me describe me as nice. Almost everyone says I am nice. It doesn't (obviously) bring social success.

I'm actually told that I'm 'too polite' and 'too much of a people pleaser, which is I guess me trying to over-force and mask myself in order to over-compensate for my natural social shortcomings.

As a child however, I was very obnoxious and annoying but oblivious to it.

I would say this much:

I'm not mean, nor am I wildly popular.

I'm obnoxious to an extent. Usually though, when I'm told I'm obnoxious it's with specific reasons. Such as I take jokes too far, I'm too logical, too smart for my own good, too curious, too stuck in my routines, too formal, don't know when to shut up, etc. Though I'm generally liked by those that know me and know I'm not trying to be obnoxious on purpose and they tend to give me some concessions and know I'm not doing it spitefully or consciously.

I believe everyone has something that someone else will find obnoxious about them, whether it's that they chew their food with their mouth open, leave the toilet seat up, play their music too loud, say "like" too much, etc.

Did the people tell you that you are obnoxious?

Only my parents have ever told me that I am obnoxious.

I really don't find most people to be obnoxious. People have their little quirks. That's what makes them people.

I'm obnoxious I think. My mom told me so often when I was younger. I try to curb it by speaking as little as possible.

I've never been told I'm obnoxious. I've been told I have an attitude, I'm annoying etc. which I did, less so now.

If that was to me, yes many people have told me that I am obnoxious at times. They usually say something like, "your obnoxious sometimes," or "that's really obnoxious" which then I ask what is obnoxious and they tell me the specifics as what was they found obnoxious. Which the main ones that I've been told about the most are the examples I gave.

My parents also would tell me that I was being obnoxious and to go find something else to do they were tired of hearing about whatever I was telling them about, they were busy. One example of that conversation was, "Kicker, (my actual knickname) can't you find something better to do like play outside, rather than going on and on about things I have no idea about. You're getting to be obnoxious." My mom said that. My dad wasn't able to talk, his larynx was removed when I was four and I wasn't talking yet, so he never verbally told me I was being obnoxious, though he did get annoyed with me from time to time when I would ramble. So my guess is I was being obnoxious to him.
