What makes it that certain people don't like to touch certain things? What goes on in the brain? Like some people don't like fleece or cotton.

It's unpleasant. And it affects my mood. If I'm forced to wear clothing of a material or texture I dislike, I'll become irritable. My functioning is impaired because I'm uncomfortable and cranky. All I can think of is the unpleasant prickling sensation on my skin.

Some fabrics are like an irritant to my nerve endings. It just feels weird.
Some synthetic materials make me get too hot and sweaty.
Some fabrics make me feel too confined. Especially woven materials that have no stretch.

Sometimes the combination of two different kinds of fiber in one fabric (ie, cotton and polyester) feels weird because it is two different textures mixed together.

Because everyone has different tastes and preferences. To those of us on the spectrum, what we have an aversion to can be felt exponentially worse because of our sensory issues. I believe that an autistic person who doesn't like the feel of say, terrycloth and cannot stand to touch or wear it would simply dislike the feel of it and still be able to tolerate it if they didn't have autism. I think it just intensifies our likes and dislikes.

I can't tell you what goes on in my brain but I can relate my subjective experience of sensory discomfort. I find certain fabrics and textures to be more stimulating than others. Some I can feel more intensely like leather or plastic. Others are mildly irritating like acrylic. I love cotton and I tolerate wool. I find that uncomfortable clothing distracts and annoys me. I can't concentrate on anything except for the sensations. I find being wet or damp similarly uncomfortable. I enjoy water but I hate feeling wet after even a shower. I can't use any hair products either.

I hate jeans, but its not really fabrics that bother me too much its liquids, or things close to liquid (mash potato, ice cream, ketchup especially). I won't eat anything thats been close to ketchup, I won't even touch an unopened bottle of it. The way it looks appalls me, i remember trying it as a child vividly, i can bring back the sense information to the point where I'm tasting it again and it makes me sick. The way it looks, its particular viscosity is the worst substance I could ever conceive of, it defines the word putrid in my mind.

Love mustard though, strange world at times.
