There's a scientific reason for the question :)
Asperger's is thought to result in a higher degree
of what are considered 'male' qualities (logic as opposed to intuition). The theory is that if you are a first-born,you will have received a maximum amount of Testosterone in your mother's womb,
regardless of whether you are male or female and may therefore have more chance of being predisposed to developing Asperger's.If you are not first born then the amount of testosterone is liable to have reduced.
This theory came to mind after I watched a BBC
programme The Making Of Me in which the
actor John Barrowman found the testosterone
aspect as a possible predisposition to being
born gay (in the case of a male child it would be
the opposite effect,in that a first born would be
less predisposed to being gay than to having
Asperger's)
Of course, there are always going to be exceptions but it might be interesting.

I find this confusing, because I know a few gay/transgender males with aspergers. So shouldnt that be impossible?

I was concerned this might cause some confusion ! Nobody knows of course but it's likely there are various reasons covering 'nature and nurture' in the development of both Asperger's and sexual orientation so there's a spectrum involved there too. It's just that the programme I
saw suggested that the level of testosterone transferred in the womb may be a factor in whether a person could be gay,so it follows that it may also be a factor in the separate
question of whether a person could have Asperger's.

I wonder if perhaps there are a few subtypes of aspergers. Perhaps there is a testosterone type, and there are other people who carry a different gene which codes for it.

I am the youngest of 2, my older brother being an NT. My father is the youngest of 3. Though his oldest brother seems a bit aspie too. Neither me or my father have the longer ring finger.

I'm the firstborn, and aspi. My uncle was firstborn and definitely aspi. His oldest daughter is autistic. My grandma was firstborn and HFA, or severe Asperger's. Her grandmother sounded very aspi, too. My cousins firstborn is aspi. My grandpa was firstborn, and probably aspi. Id never thought about that before. Cool.
