angry about several things simultaneously
Whenever you get mad at something or overwelmed about something, do you often find that the one very thing making you angry is in truth is often actually many things making you mad happening simultaneously. I find most of the time during a situation that makes me mad this is often the case.
For example, when I'm mad about being upset at being stuck in traffic I'm actually mad about: 1) mad that i have to deal with the traffic, 2) mad that I might be late to where ever I'm going to 3) I'm mad that some one at home inadvertently caused me to leave later 4) I'm mad at the people who designed the road system in a way to cause traffic more often 5) this situation is reminding me of similar situations in the past and 6) I'm mad at the fact that I get mad easily.

Yes. When something fails to meet my expectations, and especially when the situation also involve others' expectations of me (e.g. be on time), my thinking can easily take off into a catastrophizing downward spiral. My sympathetic nervous system then kicks in and I can begin to approach a meltdown. Positive self-talk can break the progression, but it is still a tiring process and I wind up feeling yucky for a time.
