Do you have any support workers, aides, home supports, etc?

I am wondering what the ideal supports would be to help me feel functional, or happier, or less stressed.

We are discussing with our provincial community living program about home supports but not even sure what they help with.

Anyone feel sort of "stupid" that they have to have help? Any fear of what people think or acquaintances/peers knowing?

Any description or idea of supports little or big would be appreciated.

i guess you could say that my Mum fits all of that. but...she may soon need a replacement. though i have a feeling i won't get any. i don't feel i'm low enough on the spectrum to get these things, especially a service dog.

I am thinking of asking for a support worker as I have no family and am going up in years. Have had counselling in the past, but none of it was geared towards my AS. Also, counselling is only ever temporary, whereas as far as I know, if you are entitled to a support worker, this is a permanent arrangement. I would find it really helpful to know that there was someone in my life for me to rely on.

I still live at home, and my parents act as my support, but I've been wondering if I'll need to find some help once I move out to live on my own.

I've got a social worker who takes care of my income support, and I'm currently trying to apply for a semi-independent living situation so that I'll eventually learn the things I need to be able to move on to living without supports. As of right now, I'm living with my grandparents, but we're kind of running afoul of the condo bylaws in the process; so far we haven't had any complaints, but the second someone files one, I pretty much have to get my ass out the door.

I think I can understand why people would feel that way, but I've never experienced it myself.
And I think that's probably because I've never actually received the help I've needed. I'm still not getting it and I'm really struggling. :|
I've sort of developed a want to appear stupid or that I need help, because I desperately want someone to notice and give it to me.

Of course I am trying to get help through the proper channels, but it's proving very, very difficult.

I hope you get the help you need soon, Felicity. Then your life will rise up to the level of your screen name.

We are looking at supports for someone to come into the house and help me achieve "normal" daily tasks that I can't seem to do. We have children, and they are now in preschool/school as I cannot look after them for so long. We are going to have someone possibly come in to help prompt and say let's do this today....(I set the goals however). If I am tired, disconnected, needing to be absorbed in something else...said person might be able to say okay, you have coffee for 15 mins, and then let's reconvene....push me a bit but not too much....try to get on a schedule. I'm not working. Someone to help me get laundry, meal planning, cleaning done, little projects. I'm hoping that there will be a sort of counseling person, or someone to help me get out to walk, or even small bits of volunteering etc. I can't do on own due to severe anxiety.
