For those of you who don't get the reference (which considering the average age of people here is probably most people) Deaf President Now was a college protest at a deaf school where students got pissed that the school didn't choose a deaf president to lead them, and got tired of deaf people having little say in the upper levels of the organization (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DcFC5lcXbs). Sounds familiar doesn't it. By protesting and taking the school over they ensured that they would start having more say in the organization... what I am wondering is could we ever do an "Autistic President Now" with Autism Speaks, and get enough simultaneous protesters in NYC and other headquarter areas to get the media attention and finally get Autism Speaks to listen to us? Would this be possible.

P.S. I know this seems random, but I have been thinking about this for a while and this is probably the best example of a mass protest movement centered around one organization that ended up getting serious change.

Autism Speaks would never listen.

There have been so many autistic self-advocates speaking out against them in so many ways, and they have consistently reacted by trying to silence them or just ignoring them.

Also, keep in mind that Gallaudet University gets its money from Deaf students, while Autism Speaks doesn't depend on autistic people giving them money.

A$ has no campus, so occupation is unlikely to be effective in persuading them.

These tactics would be better targeted at residential treatment facilities that incarcerate autistic people.

If we could get 100+ autistics outside their doors in NYC (and 25-50 outside their other regional doors) at all times protesting what they do, eventually the press would have to listen, and eventually if the press listens the donations will stop. The hard part is mobilizing the people.

The whole does not equal the sum of it's part... I am talking mass mobilization so much so that even the media can't ignore us like they have in the past.
