why are some groups allowed to be formed?

i am on facebook
and there are groups such as young black future nurses
just for black people

Hold on - is this not rasist
or even apartheid like??
would there not be uproar if i created

Of course you are correct.
But if you state this opinion in some places, then it is you who will be called the racist.
(eg. the Big Brother Shilpa nonsense)

It's called political correctness; a tool used to by some to quieten the opinion of others.


If black people want to form a group just for black people, then there is nothing inherently wrong with this. I mean there is nothing wrong with preserving and celebrating your own culture.
What is wrong is that if you were to form a group for 'White Students', then you would be called racist.
This is the double standard.
As long as you are not expressing animosity or prejudice to other groups, i dont see a problem.

I think Groucho Marx said it best when he said he didn't want to belong to any group that would invite him to be a member.


Some years ago I was invited to join a group of just women and I told them I didn't want to belong to a group that excluded anybody. They didn't get it.

Hmm. I don't see it that way. If they feel they have a common problem to overcome, such as racial stereotyping. then why not? Are you sure you are excluded? Anyone can join the NAACP in the US.

It's only human nature to form groups with like members. We are doing the same here. No one has the right to say a group cannont form. Who would judge such things?

A group like ours is here because people can use support, and that is very good!

but not racially specific groups
purely because as i said earlier try and create the sam group but for white nurses and see the reaction...

I think the support group hypothesis is right. I believe there a fewer black nurses, and so by creating a group they are able to allay the fears and share the experiences that they may have, thus increasing the quality of work they can do. Facebook groups I hate though are ones that try and get lots of people to join, an example being "If I double the number of people joining this group everyday for a month I will become a hermit and live in a cave" (not real group as far as I know)
They know full well its not going to ever happen, as there will be a rush of people joining at the start and from then on it is unrealistic to aspire to double each day for a month.

You know, it is FUNNY! I have seen preference against me in EVERYTHING by ALL groups! SOME were BLACK, MEXICAN, JAPANESE, CHINESE, ARAB, WHITE!! ! NOW I understand more of it. Some was simply AS. That DOES explain the problem with whites. Blacks, etc.. were just RACIST! I can't say ANYTHING against THAT though! Some LAUGH when I say I have been a victim of racism, but I HAVE been.

As for what SeriousGirl said? WHAT does NAACP stand for????? National Association for the Advancement of Colored People! Or what about MALDEF Mexican American Legal Defense Education Fund. ust TRY to make one for WHITES! The U.S. has LOTS of laws making it ILLEGAL!
