Inside I think we are familiar with our own reactions to solitude... but outside, where already people run amok, is it about being a speck amidst chaos?

It's just that it seems I may end up on another continent, at no expense to me because it's an official sort of thing... and, well, I suppose I'll take it up... but I'm sort of fearful (as this would be going about 4x the amount of geography I ever I happened to roam...)

But... a 10 hour or so flight, all alone... so far away, with not even my kitten...

So, should I just get lost in a far-away situation, or think this slightly through a bit more? o.O

I can't imagine what it would be like to be far away on another content without a speck of familiarity...it sounds scary to me! I think in such a situation, I would be even lonelier than I already am. I've been thrust before in situations where even the most basic familiarity was taken away, only to return later to the usual 'a few acquaintances and zero friends' situation. This is why I shun traveling. After it is taken away briefly, I appreciate the small comfort of having a store clerk greet me familiarly, for example. However, I wouldn't have had this appreciation of these daily comforts had I not experienced such an upheaval. So it could be a double-edged sword.

Oddly enough, I feel less lonely when I'm far away from home all alone than I do when I'm in my home town. Here, the fact that I'm not plugged into the community the way others are makes me feel extremely lonely. When I'm traveling, it doesn't bother me at all, since I'm just another normal person traveling and among strange people.
