The article didn't specify whether the increase in diagnoses is due to more people with ASD being diagnosed or due to a lot of misdiagnoses. In either case, it's good to know. Thanks for sharing.

And my parents are one of those parents along with Owen Suskind's parents that believe that the type of Regressive Autism where toddlers like Owen Suskind and I suddenly dramatically regress into autism and lose our skills completly are a big deal. And some news studies claim that it happens to 1/3 of kids with autism. My parents try to magnify the issue even more since I was vaccinated by the MMR at the time. But in real life, the 1/3 of the cases that regress into autism were already delayed before regression and had early delays and later losses. However, I, in real life had absolutley no delays and was actually perfectly normal happy kid who actually developed better than my brother before I really regressed dramatically into complete "LFA" at age 2 1/2. But that type of autistic regression in reality is actually quite rare.
So autistic "advocates" try to make parents fear for their normally developing toddlers that autism will kidnap them, especially my conservative parents who blame the vaccines.

What's up with these people talking about kids "vanishing?" Like the kids become personless shells just because they can't talk, interact, and move the way the used to?

Yeah, I find this pretty infuriating. It's a selfish way of thinking; "Because I'm in America, and he's in Africa, he does not exist." Or more like, "Because her culture and habits are different than mine, something is wrong/we're losing her."

The part where kids suddenly "vanish" into autism, like I did is quite rare in real life. The emphasis that it is something to dread and very common is brought up by conservatives especially my parents who believe that vaccines cause happy toddlers to vanish into autism.
And we wonder why parts of the nation had a measles outbreak recently. Think autism is bad? You know what measles does to kids? It can kill them or severly disable them and in very rare cases, it gives them pancephalitis, which measles virus destroys the brain years after infection.

I always roll my eyes when people say that this is an epidemic. It's always been around, we're just getting better at spotting it.

They say that by 2030, half of all kids would be autistic. Maybe its the fact that conservatives hate about the new stuff in our society like vaccines, which they believe Make more kids get autism. In fact my cousin was so convinced by my parents story that my cousin DID NOT vaccinate her son.
