I bought a mini trampoline, because I love bouncing up and down, and it's a fun way to keep fit. Something I'm curious about is that I keep reading about how people on the autistic spectrum love trampolines. I just thought it was something that was intrinsically fun, rather than an aspect of my Aspergers. So I'm wondering - who else here loves trampolines, and do you see it as specifically an aspie/autistic thing? And are there any reasons why loving trampolines is related to the autistic spectrum?

I know lots of NTs who enjoy bouncing on a trampoline.

I am an Aspie and I am not that fond of trampoline bouncing. I would rather walk or ride my bike.

Maybe because bouncing on a trampoline shakes body and brain, and vague nerves and other nerves, and lymphs and everything wich need to be shaken from time to time. Plus the balance thing plus the pleasure of doing it of course.

Hi

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I would like to share our experience with trampolines.

We have two kids, 10yo Aspie and 7yo NT whom both love it. Our ten yo has been using the trampoline for about 18 months and it has really helped with his co ordination. He has really become quite physically confident on the trampoline and uses it nearly every day for about an hour with his NT sister. He is not all that sporting but its really helped him.

They both really love it, its been a great thing to get them. On Christmas day 2007 the comment from DS was "This is the best Christmas ever", he took to it straight away!

Cheers

I love jumping on my mini-trampoline, I do it every day and will even lose track of time when I'm doing it. I find the repetitive action of jumping up and down to be soothing like a stim, so I do think it could be related to AS. Of course many people do it just for fun or exercise, so I think it depends on the individual.

! ! I love them! I also love swings, rocking chairs and any other sort of device that produces repetitive movement of my body. I find it very soothing.

If I could find an adult mechanical auto-swing device like what they have for babies, I'd be in heaven.

I read recently that a trainer said that trampolines are good for encouraging good digestion and healthy immune systems. I'll keep this in mind as I think all three of us would benefit from one. Sadly it is turning cold so a big one outside is not going to work at present.

I had a large 10-foot trampoline when I was a kid. Used to love it. Still had it until about 5 years ago, when a huge storm picked it up 20 feet in the air (you can see where it hit the roof), lifted it over a 10 foot block wall, and carried it 100 feet down the front yard and across the street and wrapped it around a sign post like so much twisted metal.

I love trampolines. Rocking chairs, as well. Sometimes when I'm just in a chair, I 'rock' myself, just kind of back and forth. Only then they ask me if I'm all right, cause I look like I'm stupid and crazy. I love swings, too. And wearing my badge when I go to work. I like to flap it.

I'm reviving this because I just bought a trampoline today and used it. I had so much fun just bouncing up and down. It was way more fun than jogging on a treadmill and way easier than jumping rope. Yay! And now I remember that when I was a little girl, I had a trampoline that I would spend an hour or more at a time on just bouncing up and down.

I'm so excited by my new trampoline!

Highly recommended.
