Has anyone here ever been sucessfuly refered to Prof Digby Tantam at Sheffield Hallam University? I was diagnosed as a child and I would like someone who is a expert in the field of Aspergers, to look at my condition again and re assess me as an adult, as my life seems to have hit the rocks, all services refuse to even look at me as they say my IQ is too high and my physical health is blighted by PMS/PMDD symptoms.

I am having to go to the GP on Wednesday as I had a complete meltdown on Saturday night and the PMS seems to have taken me over for 2 weeks out of every month. Should I ask about a referal from him?

I have heard of him and I think he has a good reputation, I think he also does psychotherapy/counselling for people with AS which sounds beneficial. Of course the other place in the UK is CLASS the adult AS diagnostic clinic in Cambridge headed by Simon Baron Cohen.

Yeah..I've heard of him too, but I did not know he had a special clinic. The only problem I'm going to have is trying to convince someone I need to be seen by a person like this in order to get a referal...

I think the best thing you can do is try to put forward as strong a case as possible for this referral.

It might be that you have to see another autism 'specialist' in your Primary Care Trust first before you can be referred to Professor Digby Tantam.

Have you tried contacting him directly to ask how people usually get referred to him?

Good luck.

I have problems with PMS / PMDD too.

I don't know anything about that man but I wanted to let you know you're not alone in the PMDD thing. I also have that. Lucky us, we get to go crazy once a month.

I did just that. Booked train tickets to see him at the end of April.
I live in lancs. The clinic said a reassesment hasnt been done before for someone in different area.
I just explained to my gp how much of an impact it had and that I cannot trust the diagnosis as the woman who did it wasnt very professional.
Go to your gp and ask them to put referral in :)

Well, I doubted there would be two professors working in the field, with the same name.

Best to be sure though! :-)

In all seriousness, I've heard about him before. I understand he is somewhat of an expert in the field, and is quite highly respected, by fellow academics, and patients alike. Almost like a modern day R.D. Laing type of figure.

I'd love to have an hour or two with him.
