do you use earplugs, have noise resistant windows? I just ordered a cassette with soothing nature noises from Amazon. I have earplugs, and will do something with my windows as soon as I have money.

My situational awareness depends on my hearing, so no, i do not use noise-cancelling tools except as a last resort; with them, every time something touches me or enters my field of vision, i will get a jumpscare...

as for the windows; only in my bedroom. i don't want to get used to full silence, if i do, going anywhere will be torture; by having a 'normal' house, i can keep my desentification, which makes outside less noisy (relatively)

I listen to a lot of nature sounds and calming music with headphones. I do it when I'm on the computer, mostly. I like Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, Jonathan Goldman, and Dan Gibson. Helps keep me calm the rest of the day.

I wear headphones a lot for music recording and Skyping, and they get uncomfortable after a few hours, so I just use a hi-fi amp and speakers to drown out the noise from outside. Soothing nature sounds such as wind, rain, birdsong etc. are just the thing. I also use pink noise a lot.

I'd like to have sound-resisting windows, but I've heard they don't let in as much light as regular windows, and that's a problem here, because there's not much light coming into my living room in the first place. I've also heard that they don't cut the bass frequencies, so their effectiveness in a city would be limited. A lot of the noise where I live comes through the wall from the neighbours anyway.

I've managed to protect my living space quite well from most of the annoying noises that people make outside, but I don't think it's made me any more sensitive to background noise in other places. If anything, by keeping me calm it makes me a little more tolerant to it, because I know I have a safe haven to return to.

Yeah, I use that and white noise sometimes at work when coworkers are being too loud for me to concentrate. Listening to music tends to feel more like just replacing one distraction with another.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about when I was working. I had to use headphones then.

white noise machine or a fan that makes a nice sound can be good. I've soundproofed my doors.

I sleep with a fan on for the sole purpose of white noise. I can't sleep without it. During the day, though, having a fan on that makes noise drives me bonkers.

I use either headphones or ear buds with music playing. I find nature sound loops annoying for some reason. In my room I have a white noise machine.

Sound loops are annoying to me if I can detect any sort of pattern at all. Part of my brain listens for it and then focuses only on that. For me, it has to be something that isn't on a loop.
Of course, wallpaper is the same way; I work out the pattern and then count how many times it repeats or I watch it all the way around the room, looking for imperfections in the pattern. I do the same thing with tile floors; if there is a pattern, I'll find it. And then I'll find the places where the pattern is broken. That's one of the major ways I annoy myself.
