You either find something better or find something that ruins it for you.

Deep relaxation CDs can sometimes be useful in turning off obsessive thought loops and promoting a state of total calm. They may be helpful if your obsessive interest is complicated by underlying anxiety. It may not be a total solution, depending on whatever need your obsession is filling for you, though it may be helpful as a starting point to add new perspective on your own unique patterns of behaviour.

That may help too. Thanks!

Find another even cooler obsession to obsess about. Like World Domination.

I wish I knew. I keep getting sucked into WP to the point where little else is getting done and I start feeling ill from sitting here typing at a computer for so long.

Possible solutions:

Maybe I could get somebody to watch over me and to drag me away from my obsessional interests when I've been immersed for too long. A bit of Pavlovian conditioning such as a good slap round the head might help do the trick. I'd thank them for it one day.

Decide how much time you want to invest, set a timer, and try very hard to obey it when it rings.

As has already been suggested, find another less harmful obsession to replace the unwanted one.

Don't start doing the obsession in the first place. Like a physical addiction, once you start, it doesn't satiate you, it just makes you want more.

Try to stay away from triggers and make it difficult to engage in the interest.
