The authors of the new study ... looked back at medical records that included gestational diabetes information — a research method that can only show potential links, not proof. They couldn't rule out different factors that may have contributed to autism including other prenatal problems and genetics.
Even more interesting.

Correlation is not causation.

I remain skeptical.

What hasn't Asperger's Syndrome been 'linked' to?

The man who did it is described as a "learning and behaviour specialist". There is no mention (as always) of the confounding variables. Are behaviourists doing medical research now? What next?

FWIW, I had gestational diabetes with both of my pregnancies and it was severe (required insulin and very close monitoring...had 3 doctors appointments each week the last month of my pregnancy) with my daughter. Anecdotally, when looking at my friends with kids, gestational diabetes is more common in my friends with autie kids than my friends without them. Though that is a very small sample size

While I agree that almost everything has been falsely linked to autism, it stands to reason that there is likely something that really is. At least this is more plausible than migration patterns of geese.
