I came up with an odd idea. I'm sure this has been brought up before on WP (But I couldn't find a specific thread) but I still think it's something up for debate.

I've been thinking of hiding part of my face with a scarf or something. I feel like doing this so that people will be forced to listen to my voice to see what's going on, rather then my facial expressions...hmm...maybe this also explains why I like wearing long overcoats...

Whatever. Opinions?

This is a good idea in theory, but people will probably find you very strange and even threatening if you hide your face in this way. They may even assume you are some sort of criminal or terrorist and call the police. :(

Chairbreak is right.

You COULD grow a mustache, and beard, and wear sunglasses. They will STILL try to read hands.

I've been wearing long loose trenchcoats for years. Last month I ordered a pretty scarf from eBay and when it arrived, it turned out to be a hijab. Guess what. I love it. As a Roman Catholic, I make a well-dressed Muslim. I wish I could think of a good excuse to wear that scarf but the religious connotation is too strong.

I used to hide my face with hair, but I cut my bangs again so I'm all open.

Whenever I have to go to the grocery store I like to wear a hat and leave my sunglasses on. It makes me feel a little hidden but not like a complete freak. The stores are always so bright anyway, so it's nice to block out some of the light.

You know, this so-called "body language" seems to me a lot like tics and stims...

Perhaps it is a subconscious aspie trying to free itself.

Do they follow you around like they think you're a shoplifter?

Is your username a play on Gare de Lyons?

I like the idea of hiding the face. Sunglasses are a good idea.

One of my students always has her hand in front of her mouth. I wonder if she's as aspie. But it kind of is annoying to me, to try to have a conversation with her and she's got her hand covering her mouth. I don't know why it annoys me, but it does.

I wear sunglasses most of the time. This helps me alot. I feel more comfortable like I'm hiding. I can also have probs staring and won't realize I'm doing it, so this helps so that i don't make people uncomfortable or embarass myself in this way.

And that fact that anyone may wonder about me wearing sunglasses does not bother me at all.
