How Do You Feel About Being Under Surveillance?
If you have been diagnosed or are thinking about being diagnosed (or getting you children diagnosed), you should think about the wording of this act.
Combating Autism Act of 2006 http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases ... 219-3.html
Since The President Took Office, National Institutes Of Health (NIH) Funding For Autism-Related Research Has Increased By Over 80 Percent From $56 Million In FY 2001 To An Estimated $101 Million In The FY 2007 Budget, Including Support For Autism Centers of Excellence. In addition, the Budget includes approximately $15 million at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for autism surveillance and research, including five regional Centers of Excellence for Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research and Epidemiology. In October, CDC initiated a $5.9 million study to help identify factors that may put children at risk for autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.
The Combating Autism Act Enhances Research, Surveillance, And Education Regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder
Notice they don't say information gathering. They say surveilance. That's an entirely different thing. Surveillance is what they do to terrorists and those involved in drug dealing, etc. Think they just mean LFA? Think again.
The Act Authorizes Research Under NIH To Address The Entire Scope Of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Autism, sometimes called "classical autism," is the most common condition in a group of developmental disorders known as the autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Other ASDs include Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (usually referred to as PDD-NOS).
Not only that, your state can use this (dessiminate) information however they deem fit.
The Act Authorizes Regional Centers Of Excellence For Autism Spectrum Disorder Research And Epidemiology. These Centers collect and analyze information on the number, incidence, correlates, and causes of ASD and other developmental disabilities. The Act also authorizes grants to States for collection, analysis, and dissemination of data related to autism.
They have also authorized it to be shared with all non-profits. So now they can send it on to Autism Speaks so they can really speak for you. Nice.
The Act Calls On The Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) To Enhance Information Sharing. The IACC provides a forum to facilitate the efficient and effective exchange of information about autism activities, programs, policies, and research among the Federal government, several non-profit groups, and the public. The Combating Autism Act requires the IACC to provide information and recommendations on ASD-related programs, and to continue its work to develop and update annually a strategic plan for ASD research.
Lovely. Just lovely. I always wanted to be on a federal watch list...not.
OK, this is BEYOND imbecilic!! !! !! Let me get this straight!
If I marry a woman that KNOWS she has AIDS, I can't find out, she doesn't have to tell me, the doctor isn't allowed to tell me, etc....? FACT!! !!
If **I** **PAY** to have an INR test at a hospital to determine **MY** INR so that **I** can avoid having a stroke or dying of internal hemoraging, they can't tell me unless they are my doctor or a direct agent? FACT!! !!
If my mother wants to find out if I had a heart attack, she can't find out unless I have directed the people appropriately(hippa)? FACT!! !!
YET, some MORON can prevent me from having kids if I have AS? RIDICULOUS!
I started out as a FANTASTIC student. If they gave me more info, and let me go at my own speed, I would have FINISHED as a FANTASTIC student. I was well behaved, honest, never hurt anyone. And they consider THAT bad! Unreal! It is like that new twilight zone episode in REAL LIFE! You know, where the kid tests as being too smart and is then KILLED because of it!

The word surveillance as used does not mean spy. More like watch and report. Yes the way some view HFA and AS this could be not so good. Most of the parents group on this act like it. It will get more money to help with social skills class. Not sure how they propose to change a brain that is way past the present level of knowlege. There are databases of how many ppl have aids this is like that but with AS you come with it not catch it as far as we know. When they say giving info out it can be without names like there 100,000 humans who are AS as an example. Yes this act can help and hurt depends on how it is used.

Is that true? In Europe people have been sentenced to prison for knowingly passing on HIV and other STDs!
(You only have AIDS when the illness becomes acute, the virus is called HIV)
I suppose they must protect the nation's good people from the autie terrorists. What a load of bunk. One groujp after another falls under surveillance and then, presumably, control.
The sick thing is this. Long ago I worked along with a really weird dude. He was five minutes from foil in his hat. He seems to also have been right in many of his paranoid (deusions?) assertions.
By the way, projekt Eschalon, if you read this, know that I love you.

Watch and report is spy. It doesn't specify and therefore they can do what they want. Fact finding and information gathering are just euphemisms, but at least they aren't as outright. Surveillance as written here means they could literally watch you in your house and since they passed an act (basically like the patriot act that is broad based and loosely written), they can basically do whatever they want to accomplish it.
And no, it is not like AIDS. No act has been passed like this for AIDS, Cancer or anything else including Downs Syndrome. This is the slippery slope. As you said, it can be used either way.
I find it rather hypocritical that old Dubya is so excited about signing an act that allows prenatal testing and probably (if it's like Down's Syndrome) late term abortion.

They have been in the US also, though I don't know HOW! WHO CARES though? I would rather not get the disease in the first place. It is like this product I ordered earlier this week. They botched up the order, and sent it to ANOTHER STATE! The money I paid to get it quicker is being used to SLOW DOWN delivery!! !! ! It will probably be half way back to those idiots when my plane lands! They figure a refund of my express payment fee will make me happy. I just wanted to get it early and reliably!

I'm curious, why scandinavian? I have an aunt that at least USED to help immigrants into denmark. That was for refugees though. It is usually VERY hard to get in from what I understand. I also know danish, and could communicate with norwegians, and MAYBE even some swedish! HEY, I THOUGHT about emigrating to switzerland, germany, austria, or denmark. I even checked them out. Unfortunately, it is easier for THEM to come here. 8-( Anyway, why do YOU like scandinavia?

Including in the UK too - I remember that there was a case a year or two back. A man had sexual relationships with multiple women and was passing on his disease without telling them he had it.
Oh sure but that implies you are legally obliged to tell a sexual partner of such STDs, hence your statement about a woman not having to tell you about her HIV status wasn't really accurate. (As long as you intend to sleep with her, that is. If you don't have a sexual relationship I guess you were correct)
I do hear you on the replacement/product thing though, what good is compensation when you simply wanted the product, and ASAP?

HUH????? The law says that a woman doesn't have to tell me if she has HIV! I can't ask her doctor! S/he can't tell me! EVEN if we are to get married!! !! ! As for the product? They didn't answer the phone so ANOTHER day was WASTED! I spent over a half hour on the phone with the post office to get it rerouted MYSELF. LUCKILY I managed to convince them. It should get here about 5 hours or so AFTER I leave, so It should take me only about 7 days to receive the 2 day shipment! Maybe I should sick Al Gore on them!

Ummm. I don't know. The CDC doesn't care about anyone personally but are intersted in datapoints and clusters. I'm sure that there are many parents who feel that it is environmental and that would be the reason the CDC would study it. Personally, I distrust insurance companies a lot more than the government. These parents groups sound wacky, but I wouldn't expect the CDC to give them anything other than statistics. I'm sure there is some body of law about the CDC and personal information. I haven't researched it...yet.
