God moving sucks! I don't know how many times I had to go up and down the back fire escape with bags and boxes. My legs are wobbly.
All three animals are successfully moved and so is most of my stuff. Except for a few things I had to leave in the driveway of my old place until tomorrow. And of course it's raining. Oh well. It's possible the stuff won't even be there tomorrow. Things in my old neighbourhood get picked up pretty fast. So I may loose some stuff, but such is life.
I'm so disoriented though. The sounds are different. I love my place. Once I get used to it, I'll feel better, but in the meantime I'm both exhausted and anxious.

Do you guys take a while to adjust to a new environment?

If I love a new place, I get used to it verry merry berry quickly.
Moving day is not too bad, I kind of enjoy moving things.
The mess of the move is annoying, I don't like mess.
I usually try to clean up as fast as I can after moving, putting things into their new places at the new place.
Then, I feel good about the new place.
Getting the Internetz to work as quickly as possible is paramount, of course.

It takes me some time to adapt to any change.
Adaptation is difficult and causes anxiety.

No internet yet. I'm using a Blackberry 10.

I didn't sleep at all last night. I did get most of the stuff I had left in the driveway last night moved this morning.

I'm so disoriented. I hope this feeling passes soon.

Great news, your new accommodation seems like it will be less of a headache than your last place :) . It takes me a while to get comfortable in a new environment, but the quicker I unpack and organise, the quicker I settle in. How long will it take to get your internet?

Why are you moving?

I'm with btbnnr, I have always loved moving and would adapt quickly because it was a change I liked and it was a better place. Moving is hard for most people but for me it was always exciting and not hard at all. It's the excitement of moving, and packing up and unpacking is what I love. Just as long as I have everything I need, then I am all settled in.

I hate moving. I've got too much stuff, so there probably wouldn't be time to sort it all out and pack it neatly, and I'd end up shoving it into boxes any old way, and when I unpacked it, everything would be even more disorganised than it was before.

The logistics of moving can be pretty challenging as well. If it's rented places, there are clean-ups, inspections, risk of landlords witholding deposits, and if you're on anything like the US HUD subsidy, you can find yourself having to commit to leaving one place before the new place has qualified for HUD, so it can fall through and you're homeless. And it can be costly. If you're selling and buying, unless you can afford to own both the old and the new place for a while, you have to let potential buyers come and look at your home while you're still living in it.

Then there's the new place to get used to. It's hard to check out what the problems will be in advance. The place can seem safe and quiet when you first look, then you can find there's a noisy neighbour or a gang of thugs to make your life a misery.

But at least you get the chance to start over with organising your stuff, if there's enough space to turn it over, and if you had a say in whether or not to move, and what to move to, the new place should be in some ways better than the old one.

I've been very lucky, I've always been able to move on my own terms, with access to the old place and the new place for a good while.

I know what moving is like, I will say I am finally settled after a year or two.

Well yesterday I drank some red wine, called Bell to schedule my internet hookup (which will be Wednesday,) ordered a pizza, then fell asleep for 17 hours.
I'm feeling much better.
I haven't started unpacking yet, more pulling things open to find stuff as I need it.

I lived in one family home until I was 21, I then moved out of home and never felt comfortable, shortly after that my grand mother passed, and I moved into her home, while I had a lot of re-decorating to do, I always felt at home, the place had been in my life since I can remember. It was familiar. Technically it wasn't as nice as my previous place, but it just felt better.

Well, I put the blinds up. It was pretty easy as the brackets were still in place. I wish I'd done it two days ago.

My former apartment turned out to be illegal and needing renovations.

I'm starting to get used to the street noise. Fortunately there is a church across the street where I can walk my dog. And a park a couple of blocks down.
