As the question asks, this is about your viewpoints of anyone who desires a treatment, cure or treatment and a cure for being on the spectrum.

Voted! It's perfectly understandable to want treatment/therapy for some of the problems that autistics might struggle with, but I think if it's cured, that wouldn't be very good for our moving forward as a species.

I think it's up to the person to decide for themselves. I treated some of my comorbids after alot of trail & error & I don't want to try to remove my Aspergers. I wouldn't of wanted someone telling me what I needed to do or not do cuz it was something I had to figure out for myself.

Oh I think I saw it wrong; I mean if someone wants to cure themselves they should be allowed. I don't think autism should be erased from the world.

I have no inherit negative or positive views of them and it should be up to them but I expect if a cure is found it will be forced on us either legally or more likely via financial inducements/penalties. Therefore I prefer that most autistics would not want a cure.

To each their own.

Also, I don't think people should want treatment for themselves because they cause grief to the outside world.. but rather to improve themselves, their own quality of life, & interactions with others and the outside world etc.

From my own experience having done this for myself, everything is.. better. I'm happier, healthier, wealthier, more productive, & making forward progress on all kinds of goals that were once just daydreams hindered by ASD & comorbid symptoms.

But I don't really care if someone chooses not to treat themselves. It only becomes annoying if they whine & complain about symptoms they refuse to try to do anything about. But if they're legitimately content with their symptoms and life and don't want to change for any reason, OK, fine, suit yourself. Just don't be the kind of person who tells others what do with themselves and their lives, ie not to seek treatment just because you don't want it for yourself.

I dont have the foggiest desire for a cure myself, but I can understand why some might. There are those that have it pretty bad.

I voted that it's wholly up to them and I have no views either way.

Because I feel that each person's path in life is their own, and you can't know what struggles someone deals with, therefore you can't judge them on their position as to how to handle their individual struggles.

If someone truly feels that whatever the downside, they accept themselves and if others don't like it they can go jump in a lake, that's the perfect way for them to feel about things.

If someone else truly feels that their own struggles are something they would give anything to remove from their life, that's their own business too and they've come to that outlook by ways we don't can't know.

It's up to the individual; walk a mile in someone shoes, etc.

To each one's own, really.

I don't believe there's a miracle "cure," though. I believe there's much potential for an alleviation of symptoms.

Even if they loathe themselves and want a cure, I have no empathy for those who remain uneducated and fall for woo treatments like chelation therapy. If may sound harsh but it is simply my standpoint.
