I'm posting this here because my other post in the Bug Reports section dosen't seem to have attracted Alex or the moderators attention.

When I go to log on, the screen says I'm offline and dosen't show the options for my password or any other changes I can make to my account.
My password also dosen't work, so I used the method to recover a forgotten password to log in to the forum only and write this. Does anybody know what's going on or how to fix it?

In the chatroom, I've learned that I'm not the only one having this problem. Can somebody please help?

If I've pissed the moderators off somehow, I have not been informed of it because I cannot access any messages and therefore cannot rectify the situation, assuming there is one.

I think if you had pissed anyone off Sean that you would have heard about it before any drastic limiting action would be put in place.

I am having difficulties with this site too, but not the same as you are, though I would presume that they are both related to maintainance issues.

My problems are that more often than not I do not even get to the site here. If I do manage to get in, browsing then becomes an issue as I repeatedly get a "cannot find server" page.

Then if I dare reply to a post, its rare that it gets through.

These issues seem to be increasing with memebership increase.

Alex you really need to get in and deal with Sean's problem. It could be happening to others that do not know how to get around it in the same pain in the butt way that Sean has managed to.
And to leave him unanswered for so long is not very helpful at all. Even if you don't read all the posts can you at least read the bugs thread.

I've had problems with posting at times. This has gotten a little better since I switched to DSL, but it must suck for those that still have dial-up. I used to have to keep refreshing until the server gave me the page.

Also, why is it so hard to access the forums between 10-11 p.m. PST?

I know DrinkingT is having problems logging on to her account as well.

Wow Sean, I've never had any problems before so I don't know what the problem could be. I never log out though.
I have Road Runner so everything has been pretty fast for me as far as posting and browsing.

I hope you find out what the problem is because I like your posts!

My guess is that the server is located in the Eastern time zone, and the site admin figured 2AM was a good time to do nightly routine maintenance. Unfortunately Alexander doesn't have control over the box this site is running on and has to share the CPU/bandwidth with other web sites.

The login is maintained using a 30-day cookie. If you have your browser configured to accept only "session" cookies then you'll have to login every time.

Sean, I apologize in the name of all moderators for not replying to your threads about login problems. Do you still experience them? If so, can you provide more detailed information:

1. What browser are you using?
2. Exact steps that you perform in the attempt to log in.
3. Error messages, if you get any (copy from screen).
4. Are problems persistent or intermittent?

I won't be able to reply before tomorrow late evening (work + errands + some sleep maybe), I apologize. I am pretty sure that you haven't been banned, the problems are likely technical glitches.

I'm using IE 6.0, I occasionally try logging in using the Log in button right beneath user stats on the homepage, type in my name and password (currently using a randomly generated one from the forgotten password function), a screen comes up with my avatar and name but it says I'm offline. There are no buttons present on this screen to change my account settings. After that, I go to the forums, where I cannot post or view the member only or mature forums until I log in using the text box at the bottom of the forums page. This lets me post, but I still cannot access my account settings or PMs (if any). Also, even when I log on at the forums page, I am still not listed as online. There are no error messages and these problems are persistent.

Do I ever feel stupid...

Never mind, the problem occured between the keyboard and the seat (and I have a cert that says I should know better). It was a security settings problem. I moved WP into the trusted sites list with minimal security settings and I was able to logon properly. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks for your responses.

I was able to partially reproduce the problems that you described by blocking the cookies in IE. I suspect that this may be the cause.

Edit: I'm glad you solved the problem. I post it in case other members run into similar difficulties.

I am using Konqueror and I have to log in every time I visit even though I am sure I have cookies enabled and I checked the box to be automatically logged in. :?
