Dr. Garth Webb an Ophthalmologist in Canada has invented a lens replacement that will give 60/20 vision and ultra close-up vision to anyone with $3200 per eye.

"He says the painless procedure, identical to cataract surgery, would take about eight minutes and a patient's sight would be immediately corrected.

Webb, who is the CEO of Ocumetics Technology Corp., has spent the last eight years and about $3 million researching and developing the Bionic Lens, getting international patents and securing a biomedical manufacturing facility in Delta, B.C. "

I have a rare vision disorder which causes me to be extremely nearsighted even with glasses, some colorblindness & light sensitivity. I would do it if I'd be guaranteed to have 60/60 vision with my eye condition.

How come a procedure that take eight minutes can be that costly!? Is it the manufacturing of the lens? Or is it because the inventor is greedy?

Definitely not. Unless one is blind or nearly blind, it's insanity to risk something as crucial as eyesight in a surgical procedure at all, let alone for enhancement beyond that to which the human vision apparatus is accustomed.

it is identical to a cataract procedure (ie a lens replacement) EXCEPT it gives you suprahuman vision~~~300% better vision than 20/20 and close-up vision that is also suprahuman. Even cataract surgery is very costly

the lens is complex to manufacture

they research the maximum that people will pay and charge the maximum because they want to be VERY rich

I'll be sarcastic and comment that I'd do it for $250, but do you really want someone only getting $250 to hack on your eyeballs with a scalpel?

Nah, I'll save up until someone figures out how to graft a functional USB port to the optic nerve.

wouldn't 60/60 be average vision, just measured at 60 feet?

the media was saying 60/60 however, you are correct and it is 60/20.
I foolishly perpetuated their mistake.

Can you edit my title and post, Alex, to reflect the truth??? PLEASE
:D :D :D

whats this got to do with autism? lol.
my eyes are in quite terrible condition at the moment even with glasses i can't focus well and struggle immensely with keeping up with movement, thats what staring at screens all day will do to you i guess.
i can't afford to fork out that kind of money though, and have much bigger problems right now.
how risky and effective the method is we can only guess.

the thing that bothers me the most at this point is vitreous floaters in my eyes. my vision is pretty much precise.

i already have 30/20 vision, as well as the ability to see color by moonlight (it wasn't untill i turned 20 that i realised that nightvision is supposed to be greyscale).

i don't really see the need to boost this any further.
