Last night I was watching "parenthood" with somebody one of the lead kid's has Aspergers and the episode that we saw depicted Max as being very black & white in his thinking very rigged in the way he does things. Now I know it's scripted however the person whom I was watching the program with told me I was just like that max kid not showing too much emotion being black & white with my thinking and having rigged way of doing things and have eye contact issues and I was diagnosed as ASD not Aspergers granted I'm still unsure if the DSM wasn't changed if I'd still have (classic) autism or if I would have Aspergers anyways I am wondering for those of you whom have Aspergers if Max's deception of Aspergers is close to what it's like in the real word for you guys or if it's been fictionalized for the sake of a primetime drama show?

I think I am a lot like Max but he is more severe than I am (more textbook aspie). I could also tell he had anxiety and his meltdowns looked a lot like tantrums whenever things didn't go the way he expected or when things didn't go his way. Mine have been described that way too so I thought it was accurate and then he seems to calm down afterwards and all his parents have to do was talk to him and then he comes around after he processes it.

There are social aspies.
even aspies who can maintain eye contact with many people, but not all people.

I think the TV stereo type is not accurate, in a general, spectrum, sense.

for example, I can maintain eye contact with some people when I am in a room alone with them, or when I am in a small group that I feel comfortable with. it hurts me to maintain eye contact with people that I don't like, or with people that were mean to me. and recently, I cannot maintain eye contact with black people,
because of the random and insane abuse they put up on me, for no other reason than I am minding my own business. the same goes for rednecks that seem aggressive to me, they seem to have a Deliverance thing going on, we're like a whole family will just stop and group-stare at me. :<

because of this, I feel threatened by people,
because I never know what is going to happen.
for me it is like I am constantly in a war zone.

I've only seen the first three seasons of Parenthood and it has been awhile as well. From what I can remember, I am not and have never been like Max.
