Everyone discusses what traits those on the autism spectrum disorder DO have and people with Asperger's and autism also discuss what traits they have. We're just lumped together into a group of symptoms. But no one (including me) ever talks about traits that are missing.

What ASD traits are you missing? How do you NOT fit the mold?

For me:
1. I am not a picky eater
2. I no longer have issues with empathy or eye contact (sympathy is another matter)
3. I am not academically talented in any area
4. My hand-eye coordination is great (but my writing is very messy)
5. I developed speech and language skills at a normal to advanced rate (doesn't mean my social skills were any good)

My mom taught me empathy so well that I am now too sensitive to other's emotions and that makes me very uncomfortable if their emotions are strong or negative. I feel their emotions and I don't know what to do about it and I get a strong urge to leave the room.

I surprisingly don't have problem with eye contact despite being one of the least social people I know. I also have rather decent hand-eye coordination. Most of the traits I do have are rather well hidden aside from when I have more severe episodes

Although I still struggle at times with figuring out what someone's emotional state is, once I know what it is, I'm very empathetic towards them.

I do not speak in a monotone voice or have blank facial expressions. Of all the aspie traits we're "supposed" to have, I think this one bugs me the most. I used to talk too loudly, especially when I was excited or upset but since my diagnosis I've gotten better at not doing it now.

I have always stunk at math. I'm lucky to this day if I can figure out how to add or subtract without using my fingers. But I've always been really good at reading, writing, and art. I can draw cartoons free-hand without tracing or copying. I could probably take a radio apart but I sure wouldn't know how to put it back together.

During my childhood I was not shy or introverted at all, I loved meeting new people and talking their ears off about whatever I was interested in, never mind their interests. I read that there is such a thing as an extroverted aspie, but now that I'm older I feel embarrassed for having such a "me me ME" attitude that I find annoying or disturbing in other people, that likely other people found the same about me. :(

I'm not really a picky eater. The way I hear people go on kids these days are completely vegaphobic. I ate nutritious, balanced meals my mother fixed for me. But I'm fat, anyway. :? I seem more picky now than I used to be, though. Maybe because now that I'm an adult living on my own I have control over what I eat?

-I can make eye contact no problem even though I have to think of it or I'll just look away.
-I am not gullible (Might be due to paranoia as I always think people are lying to me.)
-I understand people's emotions even though I don't care about them.

I have actually seen threads that discussed traits that the posters didn't have. Some people were wondering if they were really autistic because of the traits that they didn't have.

I have learned eye contact. I used to think eye contact was impossible but now I can do it fairly well.
I don't think I stim. I used to have to move my hands and neck, which I thought was very embarrassing.
I don't think I have special interests. I do have interests but they are not special enough.

I don't have difficulty understanding humor.
I don't have problems with food textures with exception to a few foods.
I don't generally have difficulty reading facial expressions except for very subtle ones.
I don't suffer from shutdowns now. I have only ever had a few of them and they occurred when I was much younger.

I don’t have any issues with sounds, light or smells.

I’ve never been good at math, chemistry or physics, and I’m def more emotional than logical.

I keep hearing how aspies are gullible and naïve, but I wasn't trusting with anyone other than close family even as a child.

I have more cognitive than affective empathy.

I have never been shy or suffered from social anxiety, I'm just naturally quiet and don't have a lot to say.

I've never had meltdowns the way I've seen on YouTube videos, or seen described as complete loss of control. (I used to think it just meant getting really angry, and I have been there.)

I have always been able to read some expressions.

Although I can be literal, I am not overly so, and I usually get sarcasm, jokes and idioms.

I don't rock or spin. I've only flapped my hands once or twice (and one of them was more wringing my hands than flapping them). I mostly fidget with items, tap my fingers and wiggle my toes a lot.

1) I don't have that bad of sensory issues. I do sometimes get annoyed if I hear loud noises when trying to concentrate on something (especially people walking around), but I don't think that's all that uncommon. Overall any sensory issues I have are relatively mild compared to other aspies, and they really don't interfere with my life all that much.

2) I don't have trouble understanding metaphors. I'm always creating metaphors in my head and have done well on metaphorical thinking tests in the past.

3) I have a lot of empathy for others (I just don't always know how to express it). When I first told my mom I believed I had Asperger's, she didn't believe me due to me being an empathetic person.

That's all I can think of for now. I'm sure there are more though, so I might add those later.

I prefer fiction to non-fiction.

I'm not too gullible. But I could get conned easier than most.
I get a lot of metaphors and sarcasm etc. But can still be clueless at times on stuff others get.
I have a good sense of humor.
There is no area of academics that I excel in.
I don't have a fixed subject interest like astronomy, weather or train schedules etc.

I notice a lot things people don't have are Aspie stereotypes. If you have a IQ of 75 you are probably not going to do well in school. The core traits are going to present differently in different people based on personality and other factors.

I don't have difficulty reading facial expressions and people's moods and any change of mood -- I'm just not always able to figure out why something's changed, ie, if I did or said something wrong (I'll later find out I did).

I don't have a monotone voice or expressionless face -- I can talk too loudly more often than not, and have to be careful about that. I think it's an overcompensation "swing" from the time in my youth when I was alternately selectively mute or spoke in whisper.

I'm not a picky eater, I'm willing to try new things and adopt new favorites, and I don't need colors or textures separated or any of the other things some may need to do to their meals -- although I do tend to get into a habit/rut about eating the same things all the time, once I settle on favorites.

I'm terrible at math! While bright at everything else, math was my one downfall and the uneven ability made my teachers confused because everything else was A+ while my math was in the "Dunce" basement.

I'm not unemotional or overly logical in my reactions to things, although I value logic and apply it to most problem solving as one should. But other than that, in general life I'm actually a very emotional person and I think it informs and feeds my creative abilities (I'm an artistic brain rather than a science brain).

I've heard of an autistic kid whose shirts were all yellow. I wear different colours although I do tend to wear the same thing day after day.

I was gullible when I was younger but have since learned not to be.

I had a hard time making eye contact when I was younger but have since learned to do it.

I've never been a picky eater. Of course, if you were starved as much as we were, you'd eat a rock if it was coated with ketchup. I did go through periods where I'd eat the same thing every day for a month but this was due to my grocery store anxiety. I tend to hurry up, buy the same thing in an isle, then get out as quickly as possible.
