The most recent numbers being quoted by the Canadian government are 1 in 160 have a form of PDD.

Some numbers have it as low as 1 in 10,000.

Really it is widely debated, I think the 1 in 160 is more realistic. I think it might be as high as 1 in 100 have ASD.

The thing to remember though, is that there are other non verbal learning disabilities too, so we are not the only ones that struggle with communication. You don’t have to be autistic to miss out on social clues among other things.

It also is a spectrum, sort of like vision, you can have 20/20 vision, or anything in-between that and being blind. At some point, a line is drawn, and the person is said to fall to one side or the other, with Autistic traits, or actually ASD.

I don't think it is that common. I'm not sure from where the Canadian government derived that number. 1 in 1,000 is probably closer. That is strictly AS, not the other types of PDD. In my daughter's school of 1400, there are 3 children identified with AS. There are more people who have traits, but not AS. I don't know if anyone really knows.

In the UK as a whole I believe it's 1 in 100 have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (I think that's what you were referring to,Solid). The ratio for Asperger's itself would be approx 1 in 325.

Even then this doesn't really compare Autism with 'NT'. I'm not convinced that anyone is
completely 'NT' when you take into account those with Bipolar,ADHD etc. Experts are
coming up with so many personality types that it just reinforces the idea that everyone is different in their own way (which is probably the best way to view it anyway)
