Creativity/thinking outside the box

I often hear the platitude that "one should think outside the box". I find myself unable to do that. My creativity, if I have any, is very limited.

I've had a hard time with mathematics, a subject that requires you to think outside the box and solve puzzles.

I once tried playing Minecraft, but I got bored of it due to my lack of creativity.

I have my own way of looking at and doing things. I've been told that "...you can't even see the box from where you're standing..."

I think this whole box metaphor is highly overrated anyhow....
