Do you guys have a happy place? I don't mean somewhere you actually go when you want to get away. I mean somewhere you *imagine* you are when you're upset, and it makes you feel better.

My happy place is a window seat in a jet airplane, in the morning. The plane is not very full and I don't have anyone sitting next to me. We're just starting to rise above the clouds and I can see the brilliant blue sky stretching off into the horizon. The white noise from the jet engines is so loud that I can barely hear anything. The flight attendant is serving hot, fresh coffee and a modest breakfast. The flight will take an hour or two, and just for this moment, I am completely unreachable. Everything is perfect and no one will bother me. I sip my coffee and stare out the window at the sky.

I don't really have a happy place (apart from WP of course!), but I do lighten up when I imagine me and Sophie meeting at the airport.

My happy place is cuddled up with my cats reading a book.

Mine is my imaginary mansion. Sure I have a mcmansion, but a regular mansion is cooler!

My happy place is the Red Light District in Amsterdam. Historic buildings, balmy Northern European climate, and... one other thing.

Get out! My home office is my happy place, too! I have strategically planted the garden in the backyard, so when I look out my window I have a beautiful view.

Hmm. I've never really thought about it before, but I think the happiest thing I can come up with is this:

Charles Dickens "Great Expectations" in my hands as I sit in my study. Hard wood floor and walls in a modest home in the middle of the country, far away from cities or neighbors. Woods and fields around for miles. It's just past evening and my grandkids are playing a game on the rug near the fireplace across the room. I'm watching them, of course, while their parents are away on a business seminar of some sort. I'm retired and moderately wealthy, with everything I ever wanted out of life and it's not money and it's not electronics or fame or power. Just a family. The kind I wish I had as a kid and that so many people take for granted.

I think that would be the happiest I could ever hope to be.

The $1 Beer Bar on Ave Y Rafael E Melgar in Cozumel after drifting over the reefs all morning. I'm watching the silly touristas get hustled for jewelry, red-faced, huffing along trying to see everything before they return to the ship and steam to Roatan where they do the same thing again. It makes me see their foibles clearly and appreciate my strengths more.

Well...I am very uncomfortable outside Super Happy Fun Land...even though we have been off fora few days and the place has become a swamp..It definitelty beats the outside world..at least the one immediately surrounding it...and it is a real place.
