This is my second summer after my initial diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome. I have noticed that in the summer time, when I have just a light blanket and sheet on the bed, that I do not sleep as well. I wake up several times every night. Where as during the winter months I have quite heavy blankets on the bed and I sleep like a rock. A tree could fall on the house and I would sleep thru it. I started pricing them and about had a heart attack from the prices for the adult size blankets with around 10-12lbs of weight. I found two that I really like, one has trains on it(my main special interest) and the other has the colorful jigsaw pattern for autism on it. Not sure how I am going to afford it but if it means a better nights rest, then I have to find away. I dont totaly mind some of the kids patterns as I am big kid at heart. I have a T shirt that says "Still plays with trains!" Anybody found a cheaper source for the blankets? $180 for the ones I really like is gonna be hard to come up with. Dodger

Here are a few sites I found that are marginally cheaper. If you know how to sew, you can make your own for about half the price of buying one: that's what my mom did for me, the beads and materials cost her about $79 total. Do you have a friend who would be willing/able to help you out?

http://beanblanket.com/Cotton_weighted_blanket.html ~ $105 - $120

https://www.sensorygoods.com/Medium_Wei ... s/1843.htm ~ $113 - $123

http://www.sensacalm.com/medium-weighted-blankets/ ~ $145 - $150

http://www.mosaicweightedblankets.com/i ... -blankets/ ~ $135 - $144

If you can't afford a full blanket, a weighted lap pad across your chest at night might be better than nothing. I use mine on evenings when it's too hot to drag out my whole blanket. I made it by sewing a pillow case-sized swatch of fabric into segments and filling them with sand I got from the local park (make sure to wash it first!) If you get a regular pre-sewn pillow case, that cuts down on the work even more. You can buy plastic polyfil beads at places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby for around $5 a pound I think.

I've always liked weight on me when I sleep. Even in summer I keep the AC turned down to very cold at night and sleep under my heavy blanket. I don't have a weighted blanket, I have a very heavy gold and olive fleur de lis ornate bedspread. It's fairly thick and I'm not sure what is inside of it. It's like a comforter but not. Down is usually very light but this is heavy as all get out. It's my favorite one.

Have you tried older quilts? Quilts are usually pretty heavy depending on the batting used. I bet you could find something that would work for you if you looked around at antique shops or thrift stores. The newer ones are much lighter but the older ones are pretty heavy. You could also make your own with some older heavy wool blankets. Those thin ones that are really ugly and plain. You could sew them together around the edges and with a big X across the middle and then put them in a duvet cover or sew a cover for yourself. Even the light cotton ones get heavy when you put four or five together.
