Does a.nyone else have this problem?

There are moments where I try to convey my thoughts and feelings, and I somehow lose a basic grasp of the English language and struggle to find the words to express my feelings, all I ever come out with is nonsensical babble.

Today, I attempted to engage in small talk with an acquaintance. And I thought, "Hey let me attempt to complain and whinge about the sweltering heat outside, this will make good conversation right?" (It was 31°C here in my town and quite frankly it was unbearable  )

NOPE! Terrible idea! I couldn't find the words to express my discomfort with the unbearable heat.. I instead stumbled over my words and only managed to formulate the most nonsensical of sentences: "It is... (insert an incredibly long pause here) ABSOLUTELY hot!". That is all I could think of at that moment in time.. "It's ..... absolutely hot".

I sometimes disappoint myself.

You're expressing yourself quite well right now.

I think you might be worried about losing "a basic grasp of the English Language," or socializing in general--hence, you're anxious.

You haven't lost it at all; you've just "lost it" for the moment due to anxiety, I believe.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time.

Maybe the heat caused a momentarily blank for you?

My language quirk is that when I get into a graphic mode, I tend to combine words together in a sentence that seems logical only to me, for instance "We have hotherday, don't we?", instead of "We have hot weather today, don't we?" I usually laugh it off and blame it on fatigue. :-)

I am glad I am not the only one! :D

I actually for a moment thought I was going through some form of regression and that there was a possibility I would lose the ability to communicate verbally. But thanks to you I now realise that it's just me being anxious.. Thank you, I feel a lot better now! :)

I think the requirement to be spontaneous when conversing with others is what sends me into a state of panic and is hence why I "lose" my ability to effectively communicate my thoughts.

I know that high heat does make some parts of my brain shut down.

But anyway, wouldn't it be cool if whenever the English language turned off, then we would just start speaking another language like French or Swedish?

I lose my ability to speak coherently when I'm overloaded or really anxious. My voice starts to sound different and I lose my ability to speak in grammatically correct sentences. Words come out in a jumbled order that is nonsensical unless you're used to my speech. Sometimes I lose my ability to speak at all. The rest of the time I am highly verbal.

That actually happens to me sometimes, believe it or not. I've grown up speaking a little Spanish and recently I've been learning American Sign Language. Sometimes I can use words from one language when I can't use English. But I never use the ablility to use sign language for some reason.

That happens to me a lot of the time (which is why I don't tend to talk much these days), and it honestly worries me a bit. I hope it's just a side-effect of my anxiety, but there's just no way for me to tell if it is.

I do sometimes. Especially if speaking is involved.

Not just the english language, but simply the need of translating thoughts into spoken words becoming more difficult. Writing gives just enough time.

I have this exact issue in almost every conversation I have, regardless who I'm speaking to, whether it be my Biology teacher, some stranger, or even my friend... If we are communicating face to face, I have difficulty speaking, but if I am able to communicate through technology, I don't have any issue at all.

This happens when I am overwhelmed by a variety of different things.

I know what I want to communicate, but, it comes out a bit muddled up.

In the past there were times when I just couldn't communicate, even in written format.

Happens to me as well. It is infuriating because I know I have an extensive vocabulary most if the time.

It happens to me a lot, and as others mentioned in hot weather it is the worst. I actually forgot my own phone number the other day when I was experiencing heat exhaustion.
