Something about the water...

It's like it calls to me. I spent over an hour yesterday just walking in the rain (I live in SoCal where it does not rain, so it's a very welcome relief) and I feel like I have a strange thirst for water being on me. I am extremely attracted to water, as are my boys. We love swimming, and I'm strongly reminded of what a selkie might feel if her coat has been stolen. I wish I could live in the water.

I've heard this is a common feeling with people on the spectrum and reading through older posts, seems to be the case, and so was wondering what the rate of it was on this board.

I think watching the sea is the best but any body of water does seem to make me become distracted about what's around me. No idea why but I've just always liked rivers, lakes, streams, the ocean etc.

Well, life came from the ocean, so I think we as humans have an innate connection with water.

I like almost everything about water, being submerged in it, the sounds it makes, how it reflects light, the patterns in waves, how it flows. I don't like rain on my skin, or cold tap water, the temperature difference is uncomfortable.

I couldn't believe southern California got rain!

I heard it hardly ever rains there from June through September.

So amazing and wonderful. I need to move somewhere wet... It hasn't really rained in a while (hence the drought...). Even from Sept - May it doesn't really rain here. I'm in a desert, so the clouds usually just form a circle around us, taunting us.

Not me, I actually hate the feeling of water. It feels gross. I dislike taking baths or showering just because I can't stand the feeling of being wet, having wet hair, having to dry off, etc. I don't know why but the feeling of it just really puts me off. ESPECIALLY if I get it in my face. An easy way to ruin my day is to dunk my head in the pool, I hate the feeling so much last time it happened to me I started crying. Actually, I don't wash my face with water, I use wipes instead because that's how much I hate it.

I like fresh water, not salt water.
I'm also a dam builder.

I love being in the water. I'm into the sport of free diving. As far as the rain goes. I love standing in the rain, only if I am in my swim shorts and at ether the pool or the water park. I hate the rain otherwise.

What blasphemy is this!?! I am in "North"(more central as I am in the Bay Area Peninsula) California and it hasn't rained here good in a good year!

Yes, I"m definitely drawn to water, mostly the ocean though more than anything else.

Rain doesnt do anything for me though. I live in Illinois, known to me as "damn stupid hole in the ground", and "rain" here half the time is basically "slime" as far as I'm concerned. It's.... not pleasant or refreshing (but in other places I find it can be) and it's almost ALWAYS in conjunction with some damn storm. The vast majority of the year the weather isnt very good, so while I can understand the attraction of the constant rain here for others, my own only desire is to get away from here as often as possible.

As it is though I'd take the desert over this quite happily: it's actually warm there. Arizona and such, I've liked that. As opposed to the *ahem* "summer" in this place, the ONLY time it's warm, which theoretically is about 3-4 months long, but in actuality it usually rains more than half of that time. And then the rest of the year is cold, which I hate. So I guess the heat calls to me a bit more than the water. Though my PREFERENCE would be to live down by the ocean, the desert would still do. Besides, they'd have swimming pools and such that I could go to, so it'd work out decently enough.

It is almost always uncomfortable here, but the humid summer seems to be ideal conditions for growing corn.
Here the water is mostly in the air, which makes it harder to breath and harder to control body temperature.

Oh I love storms! It was thundering like we've never had, nonstop thunder and it was awesome. And the wind was blowing pretty good too. I have no idea why I love storms so much. It might be because we don't get them?



Phoenix would probably do you good then. My grandpa moved there to get away from the snow. Where I am, we're in the High desert, which means it can get pretty cold as well as hot. I think our hottest has been about 120F and coldest around 5F. And even if it gets cold, that's no guarantee of snow... The last good snow we got was in Dec 2008 where it snowed over 2 ft.


Since then though it hasn't really snowed at all... just sprinkles, nothing that's stuck. Our poor schools haven't had to use a single snow day. I think it'd take about 3 more winters of having snow like that all over the state to bring us out of this drought, too.
I want to move somewhere cold and wet. I do not like the heat, and I especially do not like hot and humid! lol

I love swimming in fresh water. It feels refreshing against my body. I also like to swim in the ocean, though I prefer lakes.

I dunno, you might have a problem with storms if you were to stay in this area long enough.

I'm okay with them in concept. But not when they're happening every 5 minutes and ALWAYS producing tornadoes somewhere. Note, that's tornadoes plural, not singular. It makes for the sort of thing that you dare not step outside when it's going on. Even without those horrible spinning nightmares, the wind on it's own can be damaging, and can sometimes be enough to shove the car around a bit when driving (I live in the middle of nowhere; there's often not buildings around to buffer the wind at all). And let's not forget about the occaisional hail.

Whereas when I've seen them in a place like Florida, it's sorta raining kinda, with an occaisional lightning bolt, and that's usually it. Granted, they have hurricanes there, but.... you get LOTS of advance warning when one has formed since they take about a million years to hit land. Oh, they'll have the occaisional heavy storm, but.... not EVERY DAMN TIME.

Of course, then there's winter. WINTER. This last winter, I swear I musta spent 50% of it completely stuck in the house due to ice preventing any form of travel. Ugh.

I never had an attraction to water. I find it odd so many people voted that they have an attraction to water when so many on here have problems taking showers & baths regularly.
