Hello,
I have my final assessment for Aspergers coming up and I also believe I have generalised anxiety disorder and OCD which I would really like help with. I was just wondering when I go to my final assessment for Asperger can they also diagnosis with me generalised anxiety disorder and OCD if they believe I have it at that assessment or do I have to have another assessment for these things?

Also has anyone had the assignment before? If so what type of questions do they ask?

Thank you

Who is assessing you? A psychiatrist? An MD? If so, what kind of MD?

If it's either a psychiatrist or an MD I would make sure that you describe all and any symptoms that cause problems for you. So like if you suspect that you have OCD you would talk about obsessions and behaviors you have and the stress/relief they bring. Sometimes obsessions and behaviors are a normal part of autism and don't require treatment or an additional diagnosis. Sometimes they do. The same with anxiety. Anxiety goes along with being autistic in a world not made for you, but a professional can find the line between than and an additional diagnosis.

The only real benefit to getting anything diagnosed is that you may want to get medication for a symptom or enact your ADA rights in a public place like a workplace or school. For those reasons I think it's good to go ahead and get diagnosed with whatever.

As to specifically what they ask, another forum member could answer that much better than I could.

When I went through my assessment, I asked (the Clinical Psychologist) to assess me for Asperger's along with some other stuff I suspected (including OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder, Schizoid, General Anxiety Disorder, etc.). I ended up being diagnosed with Asperger's along with an Adjustment Disorder (due to Mixed Anxiety and Depressed Mood).

I just had my assessment on Monday. They asked a lot of questions to ascertain whether other conditions are involved. Though they couldn't officially diagnose it there it appeared I have obsessive compulsive personality as well as GAD. This is in the UK though, i don't know the differences with anywhere else.

Adjustment Disorder? I had to look that up. My first sociology class was called "The Social Psychology of Adjustment" and it seemed to be about coping with life changes, not so much from a Helping People Out perspective, but more like an Isn't That Interesting perspective.

Sorry to hijack. But that just goes to show that it's good to tell them everything because they could point out stuff you wouldn't have thought of.

According to DSM-IV, an Adjustment Disorder includes the following:
"A. The development of emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor(s) occurring within 3 months of the onset of the stressor(s).
…"

I believe the clinical psychologist believed the stressor was being unemployed. Which had occurred ~ 6 month prior to my diagnosis.
