Hello, folks.

I'm putting in this poll because I believe females, most definitely, are under-represented as members of the Autistic Spectrum.

My hypothesis: The proportion of males to females on this Site is less than 3 to 1; hence, the proportion of males to females is, possibly, less than 3 to 1 within the Western World at large.

It is often stated that there are 4 or 5 times as many males as females on the Spectrum. I hope, per the results of this poll, to at least present the possibility that the true proportion is actually much less.

Thank you very much, everybody, for reading this.

I'm male. I went through a period where I questioned my gender identity, but eventually I realized I'm content with the sex I was assigned at birth.

Found two other ones but I think either I voted or the survey time ended or something - but the results are interesting, especially the second one.

Suggests there actually isn't all that many more males on WP. Would not have expected that. 8O

Slightly off topic, but somewhat related: does anyone know if the discrepancy in the diagnosis rate for males vs females is more a result of biological differences between the sexes, or of the way the diagnosis criteria are written and the females tend to be socialized?

I've seen both suggested as the real cause, but I've never seen anyone point to any sort of research to back up either assertion.

I have no gender since I seem to be invisible.

Gamer-Dad: This notion is relatively in its infancy/childhood. I doubt it if many completed studies have addressed what you have presented. You'll probably see more 2-3 years down the road.

I am male.

I don't think WP isn't necessarily representative of the population on the spectrum, women for example might be much more likely to seek out a support forum or a number of other variables. The ratio is 4:1 but higher yet on the "higher functioning" end, first google result says 8:1 which seems unbelievable. I think that it probably is significantly under-diagnosed in women but not anywhere close to 1:1.

I believe WrongPlanet is probably the Site most used by autistic people throughout the world.

I'm gender fluid, I don't necessarily identify one way or the other, I don't wear specified clothing or even have specific sexual attraction, however i lack any sexual desire.
